Member Drive

As you all know, I'm currently in the process of moving this site and Hobby-Universe to a new webhost. Once the new sites are up and running smoothly, I was thinking about holding a member drive. Essentially, each member here has to attract as many new, active, members to the site as possible in the course of a month or two. At the end of it all, we'll tally up the scores and see who wins.

I need some help on a prize though, be it a cash prize or some sort of gift. Anly ideas here?

I was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of between $100 and $200 USD. I think I'd have to set benchmarks for the amount of the prize payout because I'd hate to spend $200 USD for three new members. :?

BTW, if I were rich then I'd definately offer a prize like that but I'm p0hw so I can't offer up much more than 200 bux.

I'm thinking about buying the lower down version, I i figured I'd just through it out there as a joke.

I'd love to do that but there really are better ways to advertise this site than just google. I haven't put a lot of time into Search Engine Optimization as many webmasters do. I've also put little to no time into keywords that, when searched for, bring this site to the top of the search engine list.

To be completely honest with you, I do know a fair amount about SEO now from adminning at UK Webmaster World but haven't put in tons of effort into optimizing the site. To me it's far more important to have a site full in information and somewhat established before I really pimp it. I believe the site is very marketable now but I'm up against db problems, trying to rid myself of an inconsistant webhost, and version controversies between the old host and new one.

Lastly, this is my chance to give back to the members because they have given this site so much. You can go visit 1000 websites on the net and find less than 10 that have the same level of member commitment we seem to have here. You all post, come back regularily, help welcome new guests, and create an easy, relaxed environment for everyone to feel welcome in. I really owe where we are to all of you which is why I'd rather see a prize, or prizes, go to the members.

Does this make any sense?

Animal has been busy bringing people in, it's nice to see people who enjoy the site and invite others who will appreciate it as well. And when we get the SEO going, I'm sure we'll notice a difference in the number of members as well!
