Job Stress
Well I did it today, I actually stepped down from my position of Supervisor of our On Demand Department. Now it looks like some of my energy and creativity may be returning (or so I hope). I'm not sure what this means to my career at my present employer but I guess I'll soon find out. I can say that it kind of feels like a huge weight on my back has been lifted somewhat.

Good for you Duke, I am glad you are happy in your decision, nothing is worse then having a job you hate.

Tell me about it, the job wasn't so bad, the people were just dispicable. Plus I end up having to play babysitter to a bunch of grown-ups who should know better.

I've been in that position of being supervisor to employees and that can be very stressful. I do like that position though. How the the people you were supervising treating you now that you've demoted your position as supervisor?

Not everyone knows about it at this time. I guess I don't really care how others view me, it's what's important in my life that matters. I've always had this saying "I work to live, not live to work", and it was the wrong way around for too long now. I've suffered undue stress, taken blame for others stupidity all for slightly less money than I was making as a production worker responsible for my work only. I've donated countless hours of overtime for free because Supervisor is a salaried position where I work. To hell with that, I'm tired of doing charity work, especially after 16 years of service to the same company. I think it's about damn time I look out for number one.

you're right! I like that saying too. Salary positions do suck because they do take advantage of you and you do end up working more then you should be. Now you can have regular hours that you get paid for and don't have to worry about other people's work. You'll be happier.

The quality of the people you work around can totally determine how much you enjoy your job. It's not worth being aggravated all the time for ANY amount of money or career position. It'll suck the life right out of you.
I wonder how many people get to retirement age and regret having played the game to the point of spending most of their life being miserable?
It's just not worth it....regardless of financial gain.

that's exactly why hubby and i quit our last job. we weren't happy there and it was extremely stressful. they expected way too much from us for the salary. we even lost our days off so we basically had no life. Not worth it to us.

Sadly, this is the basic definition of being a "supervisor" regardless of who employs you. Perhaps you should start your own business, or give up the supervisory role as a career?

What always amazes me is how many ADULTS do not show up for work, can't get back to work on time from breaks or lunch and then argue with other employees.
When I worked for British Airways, we actually were bonused $500 every quarter if we showed up for work as scheduled and didn't get written up for stupid crap like being late. It was the dumbest thing I ever heard......but I enjoyed the extra money.

Even MORE FUN is to see teachers that arrive late to work writing discipline notes to home for students who are tardy to class!

I have many business ideas, in fact, I had a marketing rep. calling me at home from John Deere a few years ago asking me if I was going to proceed with an idea I came up with. I sluffed it off because there were legal ramifications at the time if I tried to start the business it may have been construed as a conflict of interest with my full time job.
I may still start up the business but I'm not sure.

I have a few buds who want to get into it with me and I also had a few people who wanted to invest a while back. I have another business idea that is a bit easier to start up and I can run it as an individual so I'm looking into it over the next 6 months or so.
