Idea of a new forum
Hi, everyone
I was talking to Duke about the site and about the forums and since he's such an open to suggestion type of guy, I asked him what he thought about enlarging the existing number of forums with a new one.
We seem to have a nice time joking and talking about cool stuff ... how about a corner where we could open up more and share more of us.
I'm wondering if a forum called "Private" would work on this site. It would be dedicated to very personal things, like a little corner where we could ask question and talk about ourselves, our passions, difficult or otherwise touchy suject, like most intimate fears, convictions - religious or not, etc. But the main point of it would be ourselves, us, not our friends, children, work, our family or our relationship.
What do you think? Would it work? Will anyone visit this corner? Does it go with the rest of the site?
I could crop up a little questionnaire, and test it on you to make up a profile of it, but at the end, lifesupporters is about what we want it to be and going where we want to go. If it's just chilling out and having a nice time... maybe this idea will die out and we'll have a "Buzz" corner telling the most hilarious jokes we've ever heard.
Just a thought.
Waiting for your replies,
Twinkle

If I understand correctly, the forum won't be a private one, it will have a name that reflects our private thoughts and gives us a chance to understand ourselves as well as each other a little better. It would likely fall under the General Category and thus would be completely off limits to thread jacking and spam.
I think it's a good idea and I'll be interested to see how you all feel about it. Maybe another name would make you feel better about posting there or maybe you feel there are parts of your life that are reserved only for yourselves. Either way, could you please give us some feedback on how you feel this type of category would work?
Thank you,
Ken
BTW, thank you twinkle for sharing your ideas.

I thought more in terms of: everybody posts on "off topic forum". Some of them belong there. Other refer more to personal events, like "last cig" or "any new years' resolution" which do imply a bit of a soul sharing, or you'"tell me a little bit about yourself" could be classified under a different name. It would help people find info about eachother easier without being forced to navigate through a crowded forum.
The rest, like "wallmart scandal" or "sea food receipts exchange" can remain there. Off topic will become a sort of "current events" while "private" will be like "personal rants" on LS, if you don't mind my comparing.
You are right, the moment things get a bit too... let's say close, no one will want to open up. I don't intend to ask about childhood molestation nor will that forum be dedicated to this type of "opening up".
My idea was more of a classifying the things we know and share about eachother. You're right, maybe it won't work. Maybe it will. It was more of a suggestion, since we're getting larger and larger. But since this is the only family friendly site I've ever been on beside LS, I have no idea wheather and how it can work.

I have no problems with accomodating new ideas and welcome them all. If they work then great, if they don't then they get folded into another category similar to recent restructuring.

Seriously, like I've always said to Duke....only he knows exactly what his long term vision in and what he needs to do to accomplish it. So far, he's made excellent choices and whatever he wants to try is fine with me.
I think a more intimate or let's say 'cozy' off topic area would probably be more warm than it being mixed up with all my Spammy posts. HAHA! Other forums don't have an area like that....which makes me think it could be a really great innovative idea. A great area for us to just 'gab'.

But it's gab of a far more personal and deeper level. Essentially our innermost feelings if I'm to understand correctly.

that's what would make it all the more interesting for all of us. it would be like writing therapy. A place where we can talk about things that we wouldn't normally talk about in the open forums. Sounds like a good idea to me.
