I am a rather reserved person and when I was a little girl I didn't allow my mom to ever hug me or kiss me. I wanted to, though. Speaking of difficult kids, LOL.
Anyway, my mother hardly ever showed affection phisically when we were kids. We talked, were close, but I never let her get near.
Now that I'm so far away from home, we tell each other "I love you" quite often, and my parents told me "I love you" many many times when they came here. I think we're all getting wiser, I can only say good things about the fact that I'm away. It changed our relationship for the better in so many ways.
That and getting a little dog. It made all the difference in the world, starting with me.
