We are in the clear now, but my friend in Miami got a direct hit, I feel bad for her there is a tree in her house :? and she has no electricity.. I wish I could go get her, but there is NO gas available, and the floods are up to 1 1/2 feet :? .

Ever since you used the word 'Storm Hole' on here...I've used it ever since. It's the perfect word for Florida. :evil:

I guess Stone and I did better staying in FLorida than moving to the North Georgia mountains last year. Geez...they are getting a beating with tornado's now.

Too bad my parents went up there to get away from the winds and rain off of the gulf. I bet they are feeling really stupid. They are tough and will be okay. I hope they will be able to call me tomorrow.

WOw this storm was horrible, I can't even watch the news anymore.. I feel so bad for the costal southern states truley heartbreaking...

If I ever hear the word Hurricane again I will deff evacuate no more chancing it

I'm literally crying while reading these news reports and watching videos. My heart goes out to all the people who've been affected, it's devestating.

Not to turn this in to a political thread. but I wonder how many countries will now help us, we sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to help the Sunami and Americans are constantly supporting other countries.. I wonder if we will be repaid this time :?

Gosh....can you imagine 9000 people fleeing to the Super Dome and it turned out not to be safe at all????

There are so many older homes and poor people in that area who don't have cash on hand or insurance. They must be devasted! It's bad enough to have to evacuate... but to be poor with nowhere to go and no money to get there....is really really sad.

I was talking to Larry earlier this evening. He said the Coast Guard stations there got really bad hit and no ships were coming into those ports for a LONG time. I think it's the 3 or 4 largest shipping port in the US. On top of that....they lost a major oil rig out in the gulf. Billions of dollars down the drain.

It'll take a long time to recover from this one....probably 5 years.

The only person I know from there is SunOfHud/ Josh ...who we used to post with. Is anyone still in contact with him?

The Salvation Army has asked for volunteers on their web site.

Speaking of work..... there will be alot of construction related jobs there for sure. Anyone with a chain saw or tools can make some good money....but it'll be awhile before they can get in there.

I've been in that area many times....and almost all of it is lower than or slightly above sea level. It's a swarm of rivers, lakes and swamps. And it'll take a long time to find all the people who live in the very rural woods areas. It's a worse situation than the tv can even begin to show.
