I just don't think about it, it usually goes away in seconds.

this is going to sound off the wall but it works.

i fill a glass of water, drink the whole thing as quickly as i can then turn the glass upside down on the table, counter. hiccups are gone immediately. if you don't turn the glass upside down, the hiccups stay. i've tested this and it does work. don't ask me how but it does.

try it next time for yourself.

I say to myself, "Self, stop it" and they go away.

I rarely have hiccups, and they don't last long either. Can't even recall using any strategy to get rid of them.

YOu can breathe slowly into a paperbag....or have someone look at you and tell you to hiccup on cue. As you try to...usually you can't and they stop.

I like Star's little suggestion though. We'll try that one next time. We get the hiccups here all the time. I think it's because we eat and talk at the same time.

Default Longest Attack of Hiccups

Longest Attack of Hiccups
Charles Osborne (1894–1991) of Anthon, Iowa, USA, started hiccupping in 1922 while attempting to weigh a hog before slaughtering it. He was unable to find a cure, and continued hiccupping until February 1990, a total of 68 years!

Osborne led a normal life in which he had two wives and fathered eight children. The only discomfort from his hiccuping, he claimed, was the constant risk of losing his false teeth!

During the first few decades, he hiccupped up to 40 times a minute, slowing to 20 a minute in later years. He finally stopped in 1990 – after an estimated 430 million spasms – and died the following year.

I hate having the hiccups for five minutes.. I can't fathom 68 years worth. I guess he didn't try any of these cures lol

Someone once promised to give me something I really wanted if I could hiccup again and they just stopped. I use it with the kids all the time. Not promising them stuff, that would be too disappointing, but saying something funny or silly will happen if they do it again and act of concentration seems to prevent them.

I have a solution to hiccups. Just go to the doctors office. They don't do anything for you but then you leave and they hand you the bill, you say OMG and get so scared and mad the hiccups are gone.

That does not work in a country with national health care - where visiting a doctor is free. Although you would probably be fined for causing acoustic pollution, so that should work.

I saw that special on tv. It's a rare thing that they have no cure for. Wouldn't it be just awful? How romantic for him!
