Default Graceland?

Has anyone on here ever been to Elvis Presley's Graceland?

We went last weekend. We only live 3.5 hour drive from Memphis so we just got up Saturday morning and struck out. We had such a wonderful time. I've always liked Elvis and always thought it would be neat to go there but it wasn't a high priority. My mom is in town visiting from a couple of states away and really wanted to go. So we went. To walk through his house and imagine Elvis living his daily life there is so cool. Then to walk over to his meditation garden and see the place he was laid to rest...then to walk the street in front of his house and see the thousand and thousands of signatures of people who have visited from all over the world...it was very humbling. Of course the whole place was very commercial oriented. Other than the actual house, all the museums exited through gift shops. One other very cool thing was walking through his private jet, the Lisa Marie. You can reach out and touch the chair that he sat in during Lisa Maries birthday party.

For those of you who have been there...please share your experiences.

For those of you who have not...would you like to visit there someday?

No. Just as I would not be bothered to go to Pere Lachaise for a few famous people I admire. But that is just me.

I would LOVE to go Ayla! When my parents went they brought back some nice pics and stuff. It's a little too far for a driving trip and not big enough to build a whole vacation around. I've checked it out online though and there is lots of info on there.

I was crushed when it was announced he had died; I just couldn't/wouldn't believe it!! ....I guess that's why people like me keep seeing him in some Mall...

Graceland is not just a cemetary...it's his house...just the way he left it when he died....it's like a time warp. I highly recommend anyone who likes Elvis to travel there at some point. It'll be worth it. You can also see Sun Studios where he and Johnny Cash recorded.

Did they open the second floor to the public? I know there were unofficial pics of it posted online some years ago that I loved looking at.

I love elvis!! I remember being a little girl and watching his movies on tv. we wouldn't miss one of them. i love his songs, his voice, everything about him. he was an amazing artist!!

I'd love to go see graceland one day!! I think i'd cry!! LOL!! it's kind of too bad that it's all commercialized though. wouldn't been nice if they kept it for the most part as it was when he lived there.

The only times i see graceland is on tv.

No the 2nd floor is still off limits. They not only have it roped off but at the top of the stairs they have a blue velvet curtain so you can't even see up there. I've seen pics before also and they look so awesome.

Star don't feel bad, I did cry why we were standing at his grave. I have no idea why. I didn't sob or anything but I couldn't stop the one or two tears that rolled down my face.

I'd probably be crying through the whole tour and be a total mess when the tour got to his grave...we are HUGE Elvis fans in this house!

There was one guy there who bent down and touched the edge of his grave stone and just started sobbing. I mean loud boo-hoo sobbing. He was like 23-24 years old...I was thinking..."come on dude!...the man was dead before you were born!"

I could understand if he were older and actually remembered Elvis....

I think, like you, I would be touched...but not do the sob thing. You know, my parents met him in the hallway of a Las Vegas hotel when I was in 6th grade. He held my mom's hand. He was in Germany in the Army just like my Dad was and they are both southern boys. He told my mom that he missed Germany but didn't have time to go back. They said he was VERY nice and he spoke the few words in German he remembered. My mom didn't wash her hand for a week.
