getting my own place
I want to get my own apartment when i move home, but i was looking at furniture and it is expensive, i will probably ending up spending $3000 to get a living room set, a bedroom set and a dining room set. I mean the apartment i want is only $650 a month, so furniture is the equivilent of a few months rent. I would still need cable and internet, which is $150(i want my high def digital cable and recorder and the fastest internet available) Lets say water and electric are $250. So that is about $1200 a month with taxes and hidden costs.

Good luck, DA, hope you find an apartment just right for you and isn't too expensive!! Keep us posted...
Can your parents give you some furniture you can use for now? Or buy you something like that for Christmas?

$3000 Bucks on furniture??? I bet all the crap in my house isn't worth that. Check out Big Lots, the classifieds and even the Salvation Army for some great deals.
Other than that.....you think you are going to be happy living alone without a roommate?

I was going to suggest looking in the classified and discount stores for furniture. You don't need brand new stuff DA. not when you're just starting out. too expensive for nothing.
good luck though DA. I think you'll be happier in your place then at home with your parents.

OH yeah, def go with used stuff right now. You don't want to pay a lot of money for new stuff that'll get messed up because some drunk friends spill stuff on it!

yeah that will cut down on the costs a lot. I should be fine living by myself, no worry about being walked in on...no need to wear pants, ill be like duke....or maybe thats what you are afraid of.
I might not be living by myself, my freind from HS might fail a class in college and his parents will stop paying if he fails and he said he will move out there with me...and a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment is only $890. So splitting the costs makes it more reasonable. But i dont want to live with just any random person.

a 2 bedroom 2 bath is $890? I could rent a 3 bedroom 2 bath brick house with a fenced yard for that.
Where are you going to be living?

I did rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with a fenced yard and screened in porch for less than that, but that
ss the advantage to living in the middle of nowhere.
For furniture, I have a few friends that managed to find some free stuff off of craigslist, so that would be worth checking out.

I live in a 3 bedroom house, full basement, fenced back yard in a nice quiet neighbourhood for 850.00/month plus utilities (gas, hydro (electricity) and water).
you have to pay your utilities on top of that too DA? here, most apartments have the utilities included in their rent. a 2 bedroom apartment here would be on the average anywhere between 800.00 - 900.00/month all inclusive.
but then go more towards toronto and the price goes up big time!!

IMHO, having a place of your own is the best thing that can happen to a person.
In Paris a furnished 20mò studio goes around 650 E (an euro=1,3 $). Utilities not included: meaning you have to add at least 70 E more for electricity, internet, cable, phone and building taxes.
A house at the outskirts of Paris - clean, nice neighbourhood, but far, far away from bars - first price for renting: around 2000 E. And the insurance for the house apparently is a true ripp off - I have no idea about the amount of price, though.
My advice to you is to first find a job and then look for an appartment.
