Default Dumpster diving

I love the night before garbage pickup. We live in a cheap a$$ed neighborhood where people move or are evicted all the time. This leaves a wealth of treasures by the side of the road.

Tonight on the way home I got a really nice wooden wall shelf in perfect condition and a nice nightstand like thing that is set up for files. How cool is that? I want to paint them both so they match where I'm putting them.

BUT...what a great deal. I got a nice charcoal grill not too long ago due to my NO PRIDE DILIGENCE!

How about you? Do you Dumpster Dive or Garbage Shop?

No, we don't. I'm trying slowly to get rid of the stuff I have. Especially knicknacks! I find they leave a home cluttered and I don't like dusting them. But if I saw something I needed, I'd pick it up!

I rotate my knickknacks. I keep them in a box in my closet and when I rearrange a room or try to do something different, I go thru them and pick out what I think will work. I don't like clutter either. OR dusting all that stuff.

I get junk all the time from garage sales. Mostly toys which my son plays with for a day and then throws it into the forgotten toy box. Unless they are legos, those he adds to his collection.

I wouldn't be caught dead dumpster diving. We too have people rooting through our garbage bins daily and the thought of it is depressing to me.

I can honestly say I have not picked up anything out of a dumpster. My daughter did find a nice end table on the curb of a friends house and snatched it for use in her first apartment. It wasn't too bad. I don't think I could actually pick through a dumpster. Seeing things on the curb is a different story. I haven't personally found anything but if I did I wouldn't hesitate to snatch it if I was looking for something like it.

I'm more prone to wait until the garage sale is over then go all thru the stuff they didn't sell that they threw out on the curb for the garbage trucks to pick up.

I've gone to yard sales and flea markets and got some small pieces of furniture that I sanded down and painted and they are out on the backyard deck as we speak.....

Part of my job this summer was to go into repo houses and clean them out for reality places.

I got some decent stuff out of some, including a 10 gallon fish tank.

Also, we do a lot of mowing jobs down by where all the university kids live.
In the spring, when most of them are leaving there's tons of nice stuff out on the streets and in garbages. you don't even have to look in an actual garbage most of the time.
I got a snowboard and I nice charcoil grill. SOld the snowboard on ebay for 160 bucks.

RANDOM!!! Great to see you posting!

What kind of fish did you get? I love tropical fish! Though I don't have a fish tank myself, I have a tape that has little fishees swimming just about like real...very soothing!

I've actually just been using it for my mouse.

When I need to clean one, I set up the other and put him in it.
That way I don't have to worry about him gnawing through a box or something.

I may get another small animal later, though I'm working on getting a chinchilla right now.

What's your mouse's name? How long have you had the little guy?

We don't dot hat either. we used to go to the dump and check things out there years ago but now we're not allowed to do that anymore. people don't leave much on the side of the road anymore either now with all the restrictions they have on us with garbage. if we leave anything out there, we have to call ahead and let them know exactly what we have and they'll only pick up what is reported by the person. i never see anything good to pick up on the side of the street anymore. not like it used to be years ago!
