Do you blow your nose in public?
I'm asking this question very seriously...well...as serious as I get anyway. I have this kicking cold again. I avoided the library yesterday because I have this aversion to blowing my nose in public. I really dislike it when people do. So, if my nose is runny....I stay home.
Question, do you every blow your nose in public? Life at church, school class, work, etc? Or do you try to deal with it quietly until you can get in a bathroom or your car?

I blow my nose anywhere.
This reminds me, I'm setting up a behavioural experiment with someone (not suggesting you are socially phobic Merika ). There are two reasons, first for him to learn that people don't react as negatively as he predicts they will to simple mistakes. Second to learn that whilst it's not nice to be thought of as an idiot, the world won't end and it's not to be feared, especially if it's by a stranger of no consquence. To do this we set up a fear hierarchy with a very small thing at the bottom and the worst thing at the top. I always have difficulty knowing where to aim for with the top, so for instance for a spider phobic I think putting them in your hair is too extreme (a "normal" person would not do that), whereas letting one crawl over your hand is probably unpleasant but OK.
A very longwinded explanation to get to a simple question: Would you be able to go in a cafe or shop, queue up to pay/order and say to the assistant: Blubrahugamospomansteriserpolidum or other such gobbledygook? I would not like to do this but could do and would do to role model it, but I am quite outgoing and I wondered if it was too much. Could you do it? Say that and then maybe say, "I'll have a cup of coffee please", as if nothing had happened?
(sorry for thread hijack do move to health if you like)

Re:
i never blow my nose in public. I'll go to a bathroom or away from the public's eye if i really feel i can't wait to blow my nose.

Captaincash, nice to meet you online at last! I won't have to do the dreaded deal after all. When we got down to the detail, it was more dropping things than saying stupid things that was feared.
I wonder whether the blowing nose thing is a cultural difference, or whether I'm just disgusting? I must ask around. I suppose I'd do it fairly quietly, but I'd still do it.

Yuk! A well know politician made the mistake of doing that while waiting for a film link. He didn't realise the camera was on, of course it was broadcast on satire shows for ages afterwards.

Usually I just use my sleeve
Seriously, I'm like Meanon, if it needs blowing; I don't wait. I carry kleenex in my pocket all the time...and I have enough kleenex to make sure that the 'nose goo' stays on the kleenex and not some on my hand...gross!!
Mostly I just avoid getting a cold...must be all this insulation that keeps me warm...
