Default Christmas in your town.

Does your town do special things at Christmas or have they caved in and avoided any reference to Christmas to avoid problems with non-christian people?

I live in a Bible Belt so Christmas is alive and well here in Niceville (no joke, that is the name of my town) and I am glad that they haven't given into those that don't celebrate the season.

Except for the ritual slaughter of trees, not much.

Much to my relief. Of course individuals are free to do what they want. It is just too fake, IMO. If Christmas is about the spirit of Christ, we do not need to be shown about 1542358252 times, that warehouse X, Y, or Z has a special unique christmas offer, for each of its 542135 customers.

Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.

Slaughter, it's a renewable resource you know

These days trees are cultured and grown on farms for the specific purpose of becoming Christmas Trees. I wouldn't be suprised to learn that you average Christmas Tree isn't even grown on it's original root stem but more of a hybrid forced to grow in optimum conditions with the help of steroids/growth hormones.

I know. I was more referring to the customs of religious slaughter of animals, as Christmas should be above all a religious holiday..

What a timely topic!

I asked yesterday at work why we don't hear Christmas Carols any more because most of us love them and they put us into the Christmas Spirit even more. I was told it was because of the Jehovah's Witnesses that they were not to be played anymore....I was very sad to hear that!

That is a bridge too far for me. Personally I don't care too much for the Christmas songs, but a ban, because of this is a bit too much.

Christmas songs 24/7 is a bit too much for me, but the occassional song, mixed in with songs that fit with the spirit of Christmas would be great!

OMG, but that's the funniest thing I've heard lately when it comes to dreams!

I used to make my youngest son watch "Wizard of Oz" with me every year! He left home because of the extreme cruelty of having to watch that show with me! Let me add that he was an adult when he left...
