These are tough situations. I think it depends on the city whether or not the police will even come for a case like that (even in the Netherlands you get that impression). Not to mention that you could get a "reward" from this abusive husband, if he found out you made the call.

That's a difficult situation, DA! She should have run and called the police herself...maybe...

Re:
If it's something that happened before it's likely someone else called the cops.

Did you know he was beating her? If not, then I don't think you have anything to feel guilty about. Couple fight and sometimes it is loud. If you were aware that he was beating her then that is another story. Someone has to step up and help. What if no one did? I am sorry but I hear stories from ladies whenever we have self defense clinics at our Taekwondo schools and it bothers me that people don't help other people anymore.

Re:
im not 100% sure, but they were yelling, i woke up, more yelling, then it stops and she is screaming and crying hysterically, her friends then carried her out going to the hospital, i saw them leave out my window and im sure they went to the hospital, beyond that im not 100% sure, im fairly sure i heard the friends telling him he shouldn't hit her, but because i didnt see it myself im not 100% sure, im gonna pay more attention now, thats all i can do, the police station is literally across the street, if needed.

That is serious indeed. If it happens again, it is probably best to call. Going to the hospital implies severe injuries. And in general abuse progresses from minor to major to complete .

Re:
DA, do you live in an apartment building? If so, then calling the superintendent or manager or security would be the choice i made. then they would be the ones to go there and check it out and call the police then you're left annonymous.
sadly though, many times, the woman doesn't end up pressing charges so it becomes a never ending circle.

Isn't that the truth? This problem happened a lot between my Mom and Dad until the Police said they would stop coming until she pressed charges...horrible times!

Re:
I've known a few women in my life that were like that as well. i don't understand why myself but, for someone who has zero for self-esteem left and feels like nobody would ever want them, i guess that could be why they stay? it's sad, very sad. and you know what? no matter how many times you tell these women that they deserve better then that, that they don't need to put up with that, that they are beautiful and worth more then to get beat every day, they still stay in that kind of relationship.
I feel bad for any woman who feels they have no "out". and those men should be put away for a long time. at least long enough for the woman to go seek help so by the time he gets out, they at least ahve the confidence and some of their self-esteem back to the point where they wouldn't take them back in.
