I am doing a project for my european travel class and i need to do research on British culture, so if anybody has any interesting facts that would be helpful.

What do you want to know? It's a rather VAST subject . Could you choose an angle (language? music? monarchy? politics? TV?) and see what you can find out about British culture from that perspective - rather than trying to comment on everything at once?

yeah it is vast, we ended up covering pretty much everything just not in any detail. Actually the one thing we dont have that much info on is television.

We are doing out presentation as a fake BBC broadcast.

Completely off-topic, but this thread reminded me of "The New Statesman", which is political satire on / against British politic(ian)s. I love it

Is that the one with Rick Mayall, Vautrin? DA - Of all European countries, the Dutch probably know most about UK culture. We export loads of our shows there.

You can listen to BBC radio online if you want some ideas. You have to get the pips in your presentation - three short and one long tone on the hour. It's practically their trade mark.

It would be much more fun to do it as a spoof. There will be lots of source material on the net. The British are good at laughing at themselves. Let me know if you want me to find you anything. I can't promise (exams and xmas) but if it's something I can do quickly it should be fine.

Yes, it is with Rick Mayall Meanon. Shows like that are rare - and it is a show of excellent quality. I was an odd child - it was aired a few times in the Netherlands. Mostly in the mid- and late 90's. When I was around 15 years of age.

As I don't live in the UK, it is a lot harder to keep up with what is happening in the UK. Subtelty is not the best product to export.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/guide/ar..._7774820.shtml for some background information on the show.

And of course a quote that is great for laughs, no matter what political convictions we may hold.
Liberal Democrat MP: I should like to point out on behalf of the Liberal Democrats, That although we are very nice people we have absolutely no idea how to run a country.
