Before you go to bed
Before you put your kids to bed or when your parents put you to bed....were there any phrases you used to say to each other?
We always say..... Good-Night, Don't let the bedbugs bite, Nibble Nibble. How stupid is that?????? But my kids say it every night and I do too.

I don't think I did as a kid but as a dad I try and ask Dwoing "who does daddy love?" as she's nodding off.

I used to tell the boys that I loved them all the time, but now that they've grown up and left I just tuck myself in and talk to myself until I fall asleep; the cat just looks at me and then flops and curls up and we both go to sleep..my husband stays up a lot longer than I do...and Duke, if you say anything about the six o'clock News again...

Wouldn't you be surprised if she said 'Orlando Bloom' he's haut!
Sorry, Duke, you were being serious and I'm just in a goofy mood today...
I really, really love how you both have that and when she answers 'meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' love it!

I think kids love little sayings and rituals with their parents. It makes them feel secure because it's something they can depend on.

One time, we had two foster kids, a boy and a girl about 5 and 3. They missed their mommy and had trouble going to sleep. So I sang them to sleep with this little song that I made up. Since I made it up, I didn't sing it exactly the same the second night, they kept correcting me until I sang it exactly the same every night. It did work too, somehow singing put them at ease and they were able to drift off to sleep, sometimes I would hear little snores before I even finished.

I've just written you my answer in French, how bizarre is that?
Mom used to tell me cute stuff - but more to my sister than to me. I was a difficult child as a kid, quite introverted, said I wasn't needing any cuddling, but longing for them. How strange is that, lol?!?
I don't have too many nice memories about my childhood, but I certainly didn't have a rough one.

You are so bad Merika! I was right in the middle of a serious conversation when I read your post and I almost burst out laughing.

By the way, that has never happened to me. I'm the one who falls asleep but only when I'm not on top. I'm just counting the ceiling tiles and feeling so good and relaxed and oh so sleepy...zzzzz. I'm only joking anyways.

My mom and dad used to always say...
"Good night, don't let the bed bugs bite, and if they do...take a shoe and beat them black and blue!"
ha ha ha....
I loved my childhood.

I don't remember how this started or why. I live with one of my sisters and before we shut the lights one of us always starts with Goodnight Johnboy, and the other yells Good night Sue Ellen and we continue til we have mentioned all the Waltons names. Its bizarre but we go to sleep laughing.
