Does a Canadian island have sandy beaches or those cool rock shores like the UK?

Well, depends where you are. The island I was born on (Prince Edward Island) is made of red clay. The North shore has cliffs, mostly low ones, and very little in the way of beaches as it is the side towards the mainland. The south shore is very sandy and has expansive beaches along it's entire length.
Here's a pic of the cliffs, you can see how red the iron rich soil is:

The best and most well known beach is Cavendish, that's where Anne of Green Gables and all that crap is. That's probably where these pictures were taken.
I just grabbed these without looking but I think this one is at Tea Hill. Spent many a day down here stabbing beached jellyfish when I was younger.
My personal favorite beach is a little inlet by a lighthouse in Fox River, it's got lighter colored sand, you can walk out for almost half a kilometer before it's over your head and the entire thing is surrounded by a huge cliff, you have to walk through a farmers field and travel down a little path on the side of the cliff in order to get there.
This picture isn't what I'm talking about but it's the closest I could find. Imagine that the cliff in the foreground is 50 feet higher and extends another 50 feet out into the water. It's awesome, that's the only thing I miss about P.E.I.
The thing about living on an island though is that you hardly ever go to the beach, you really take it for granted. I'd sometimes not go for 3 years in a row. I'm going back in June to see my family and I fully intend to spend 95% of my time just sitting my @$$ on one of these beaches right here.
