I agree, men tend not to understand the nature of the bond in very close female friendships. I think often they are threatened by it. I can understand why.
I've known my best friend for much longer than her husband has, we have spent all our formative years together. I know more about her than he does, all of her private thoughts she shares with me. He wouldn't want to know them all, just as he didn't want to know every escapade from her past. It's a pity, as there is no comparison. It's like comparing the love of a child with the love of a spouse. They are totally different in nature. Her primary relationship is with him, as mine was with my husband.
Of all the couples I know well, the woman handles the finances and the man has little to no involvement. This was the case for us even though I am useless at it, which is why I need my friend's help.
