Someone from my past

This guy I used to know as a teenager got arrested 3 years ago for a DUI but he really hurt someone and got a long sentence. I ran into his mother at church a few months back and handed her one of my business cards. Well her son has been writing me letters from jail, I never wrote him back because I used to get into alot of trouble with him. He has written about 6 times and I don't respond.

Today he called I picked up the phone and he wanted to chat so I talked to him for a good 20 minutes he told me he is straiting his life out and would like to see me at church this weekend. He isn't hanging around druggies or drunks anymore and I think he wants to hang out with me.

I don't mean to be a B**ch, I am sure he has changed or has every intention to but I want to leave my past in the past. I don't want someone right out of jail around my kids and he still has that "I"ve been locked up attitude" sometimes jail just makes you worse. His mother really want's us to be friends again, she thinks I am a good influence on him since I have changed so much.

How do I tell him I am not intrested in having a friendship? We do go to the same church, he is a nice boy, but I am just not ready to take on anyone wtih major problems in my lfe right now. That sounds mean and shallow but I really can't be strong fot anyone but myself.

I'm with Duke. I'd be honest with him and let him know in a nice way that i'm not interested in persuing a friendship with him.

You will see him in church. I think that is enough. If he says he wants to see you outside church and his mom persists I would, like Duke and Star say, just be honest and let them know that you have a new life and you wish him well in his but you have no desire to change yours.

For all intents and purposes.....you are having Greg's baby. Until the situation between you and Greg is resolved...starting a new relationship with someone else.....wouldn't be fair to anyone involved. I would tell this new guy that.

I don't think he is looking for a relationship just a buddy, but that is a good point I can blame it on Greg anyways.

The boy is a nice kid he's a little lost now and I do feel bad for him but I just cant have anyone depend on me right now even emotionally nor do I want people from jail hanging around jail makes ya worse.

In MOST circumstances....that is absolutely correct. IRL....I doubt men have the capacity to hang around a female and not wonder what it would be like to have sex with her. I don't know if men can help it.

That's what his statement says and I agree with it totally.

He also had another good line in City Slickers in regards to having sex.

He said that women need a reason to have sex, men just need a place.
