Showers/ Wedding Gifts/Baby Gifts
Do you make these purchases from the registration list at any particular store or do you buy what you can afford elsewhere?

I've never bought nay gift from a registration list. I usually give money for wedding gifts since most people already have everything because they're living together. I choose my own gifts to give at different stores. I especially LOVE shopping for baby shower gifts.

My son and his wife picked out everything they wanted for the baby thru a registry. Now...I don't get to pick out anything....just pay for it. I don't mind other than it takes all the fun out of surprising anyone with a gift these days.

I think it takes the fun out of the surprise too. You could pick something they've already picked out and by the baby something on top of that someplace else. something that you could choose. I would do that so I felt like i picked something special for the baby myself.

I thought that many couples had a wedding gift list at particular stores. That way they got what they wanted and there was no chance of duplicate gifts.

Yes they do. This is when they pick china which is $24 a plate and think they are walking in mature wisdom.
I spend MY money on plates which don't break when my kids drop them....and the whole set is less than $24 at Walmart. HAHA.

I have to register for my baby shower and I really don't want to, I think it is kind of shallow. But there are certian things I need that I can't have duplicates of. It is much more accepted now a days.

I never registered for wedding or baby gifts. I knew ahead of time who was getting the big things. Another thing that can be done is writing in your invitations what it is you do need. I've had invitations given to me that way. sometimes if it was something big, a couple of us would pitch in together and get it for the bride or mother to be.

I hate asking for gifts, I really don't even want a baby shower.

I don't blame you. I never liked showers in the first place, especially when i was the center of attention. I especially hate those stupid games they play! :?

I know I have no problem getting the stuff we need for the baby at a thrift shop I went crazy buying all sorts of stuff for Noah when he was born and he grew right out of it, and I still don't have one little thing left. I would hate to have people buy a bunch of unnecessary items.
To be honest I don't think anyone actually LIKES going to the showers it's more of an obligation.

I loved all my showers and all my gifts. When Isis was born the whole Jr High Dept, which I headed, threw me a shower inviting the whole church ...both male and female. There had to be over 100 people there and I got the BEST stuff! It took three truck runs to get it all home. When the photo area in back in service on here....I'll post a pic of it. (Ofcrourse, I looked like a WHALE when I was pregnant!)
I guess registries are especially good for the employee showers. As a family member though, much less the Grandma, it feels impersonal to purchase from a pre-selected list. I'm going to pick out a bunch of wonderful frilly clothes and say to h*ll with the list.

I've never attended that type of wedding. Most of the people I know have their lists in a few department stores so the prices aren't too bad. It's also acceptable to go in halvsies with another couple.
