Default Room mate problems

We never really liked eachother, but hey, we were civil to eachother. Let me explain to you their style.

Anyway, they're jealous big time - for instance, they told me NOTHING, not even did you have a good flight when I returned from the States! Oh, well, I guess I'll live.

I just want to stand up to them. It's always little pinches, which I cannot help but return big time. The appartment I live in is quite fine, I'd hate to lose it over them.

But can they? throw me out, that is. I've never come here partying with tons of friends, I clean up the appartment when it's my turn. And yes, I do go out, because I happen to actually have a social life. A weak social life, but a social life nonetheless. My ex visited me quite a bit, but he was always coming here very late in the evening, they didn't even know he was here. Reasons to be mad: he showers, therefore the electricity bill goes up  ! Cheap bastards, hihihi!

You understood the type of female I'm talking about. Not integrated, no French friends- or friends at all, not going out, no high hills (I have such a weak spot for them)... incredible, if you put me near them, I actually am a social butterfly.

I don't particualrily not like them... they're simply... annoying!

So: what would be reasons you'd throw somebody out? IF they did what? The contract are made up on all our names, but it should expire in a few months.

I don't know the tenants laws where you are but here I do know them inside and out as I was representing landlords when I was a building manager.

By a contract, you mean you have a lease right? probably a yearly lease? If your name is on that lease and signed by you, then they cannot kick you out as the apartment is as much yours as it is theirs. As for your lease running out. Does that mean that it's close to renewal time? If so, they still can't kick you out without you asking the management to have you removed from the lease.

Renewal here means that you get an actual renewal paper (N1 as they are here in Ontario). They have to be signed with all people who are listed on the lease. So, they can't kick you out.

Is there a management you can ask about all of this? If the tenants laws are different in your country then in ours, it might be a good idea to ask and see what your rights are as a roomate. It's always a very good thing to know your rights as a tenant.

I always wondered how it worked out when people became roommates with strangers that they may or may not make friends with. I would be miserable living like that. I would rather live in a one room apartment by myself than share even a big house with a group of roommates.

Star is probably right...in that there isn't anything they can do until your lease period is up.....but you may want to start looking around for another arrangement before the end of your set lease time. It's not worth living with people who don't make you feel like you have a home.

I can't find anything that helps me. I hate the situation that I'm in!

Twinkle,

Another thing I should mention is that if you do decide to look elsewhere and get a new place come renewal time, then make sure you have your name removed from the lease/renewal. If you failt to do this and they end up destroying anything in the apartment, you will be held accountable along with the toher ones who are named on the lease. Always make sure that your butt is covered legally.

I'm with you merika. I had roomates when I was in my early 20's and I hated it. What I hated the most was the lack of respect of privacy. The roomate that I did have and ended up kicking out, she used to go into my room (and the door was locked!) and steal things from me when I wasn't home. I ended up having to lock everything in my room, food included and it still didn't stop her from doing that. It got to the point where I couldn't live like that anymore so I kicked her out.

I couldn't have a roomate now. Never. I value my privacy too much.

You have more than one female roomate?

Maybe all roomates are annoying? I really have not heard any success stories about roomates unless they just use their apatrment to sleep in. This is all I do almost: Workout at the gym, go to class, go to library, go to a happy hour buffet where I can eat for free if I buy a $2 coke, then go to work. On weekends I workout go running, play tennis, see a movie, whatever, but I don't hang out in the duplex.

If I lived in Paris I would probably never come home except to recover. I probably would cut my life short with all the trouble I would get into! Roomates would be the last of my concerns.

do you have a building manager? landlord? a landlord and tenants act (that would be government run)?

I do have a landlady, but the only time she interfears is when she gets our rent.

I cannot have any friends here except during the week end. Other than that they're very happy cooking traditional Romanian cuisine and exchanging internet photos with male actors. Who does this anymore? I didn't do that when I was 14, at 24 it's a bit dramatic I think.

I love my homecooking, but no offence, I left that country for a reason, ya know what I mean?

There's no law stating how many days per month a person could come visit and NOT pay part of the rent!!!! I've looked a bit up for other appartments... One to 2 hundred euros over what I pay here. A big no-no!

Won't it be a merry evening tonight!!!

you're right. there is no law as to how many days a visitor can stay and not pay rent. With roomates though, it's all about respecting eachother. Did you talk to them about this prior to having your boyfriend over? If you didn't, this could be the reason why they're so upset. When you have a roomate, things have to be agreed upon so that everyone living in the apartment or the house is comfortable.

The same thing goes with a marriage. I cna't have a friend stay here without talking to my husband about it first. I wouldn't want him to do that without talking to me first either. We both need to be prepared that our privacy will be interupted for a period of time.

Having roomates isn't easy. You have to realize that you have several different people living under the same roof. Everyone has their own quarks, routines, favorite shows, favorite meals, etc...

I would sit down and talk to them about this. see what it is that they're upset about and take it from there. Break the ice so to speak.

Stuff that is very good once in a while. A lot of fried stuff that makes the atmosphere in the kitchen all greasy. Soups with pork in it that give off a very strong flavour, but you'll have to wash all your clothes if you want to get the smell out of 'em.

It's not all Romanian... Jeez, and then they complain their jeans don't fit! Vegetables and fruit! And please, please, please, forget the damn oil when cooking!
