Punishing children
Tonight my dad punished my brother by taking away his video games until he graduates high school...he is a freshman.
What punishments do you or did you recieve or give?

what did your brother do to get a long punishment like that?
we always tried to have punishments to fit the crime. Take their things away from them, sitting or standing in the corner, a spank on the bum, grounding them from an event.

he got mad at my dad for saying he was doing something wrong and got in my Dads face and my dad thought he was being disrespectful.
more then likely the punishement will be reduced, my dad and brother are stubborn and wont back down and keep aggrevating each other, one day one will end up smacking the other,or my brother will get sent to boarding school.

It does seem like a really LONG period of time. 1-3 months maybe....but not years seems more realistic. Truthfully, it's keeping them on the puter and various game consoles which will keep them off of the street.
In your Dad's defense though, it IS hard and frustrating to raise kids these days. They can be very disrespectful and smart a$$ed. If I had money for boarding school....I would do it. Ofcourse, there's no guarantee they will change their attitude there either.

I just took Noahs TV out of his room indefinatly. He will never have a TV in his room again neither will any of my children.
I took it away because he was misbehaving, he stayed up way to late on school nights, and he slept on the floor instead of his bed.
My parents used to take away my car, phone ect.

I agree. Every school whether public or boarding school have bad influences. Doesn't matter how much you pay for a school, they're everywhere. Now at the age that Kassandra's at, I take priviledges or things away from her. I wouldn't do that for a period of years though. The punishment has to fit the crime or what's the point?

My kids didn't have TV's in their rooms until they were older. It's the only assurance I have of keeping the peace. If not, they would be fighting over what to watch all the time. They STILL fight over who gets the big TV in the living room with the On Demand stuff on it.
I probably wouldn't take their TV from them. The games and phones work real well though.

I talked to my Dad today and he said the punishment will probably stick, because my brother is calmer without video games, my dad doesnt want my brother to hurt anybody when he is mad and get sent away, and cause my brother is stronger then my dad now, he is afraid that he cant stop him.

He's still young and keeping him within age appropriate games is a good idea ....if he plays games at all As he gets older though.....video games are what most kids do.....especially males.

no i dont have a southern accent as i grew up in upstate NY, i do use certain words though and def can fake one...but i think that hat, my black button down shirt, and jeans will look really good...something that i feel is rare...im self critical of how i look, im never satisfied. I used to think i was ugly. Your comment made my day
i think this thread hijack will turn into its own thread soon.
Video games are something that shouldnt be denied totally, oherwise the kid will try and sneak them, but they should be controlled and censored.
