narrowmindedness
argh i hate people that are narrowminded, my friend from HS is really narrow minded and i just want to hit him. He lives in a box basically, he thinks everything that isnt part of his life is wrong or bad, he cant see anybody else's point of view. Like today he went off on some rant about how rap/hip hop takes no talent that it isnt music. I was like, just because you dont understand it, doesnt mean it doesnt take talent.

People are like that are really frustrating to be around. People don't necessarily have to agree on things like that (or politics, ). But not assume that because they think something, that they must be right.
I can't stand such people, and I have made it one of my tasks in life to avoid such people as much as possible.

i think that your frined has his/her opinion about this topic and believes in it. i don['t find that narrow-minded at all. i find that having a strong opinion on something. we all have something that we feel strongly about.
opinions are just that, opinions. chances are you can't change someone's opinion because that's how they feel. I respect everyone's opinions whether i agree with them or not or whether how strong an opinion is or not.
my opinion on rap is about the same as your friend's opinion DA.

It can be. But a narrowminded person who disagrees with you, would probably say that:
a) you are wrong
b) you are narrowminded for not understanding the "truth"

i guess that would be a narrowminded person. that i don't agree with. nobody should say that a person's opinion is wrong or challenge it. it's an opinion and should be respected.

I dont mind him disagreeing about not liking rap, but saying that it takes no talent, is a whole different level. I also get, though not from him, "how can oklahoma be any fun" people that have lived in NY there whole life and bsically think life everywhere else is bad.

I'm fluent in French, but I do have an accent and when I'm tired I make huge efforts to make sense when speaking French. Well, some of my collegues thought that I'm slower simply because I don't master French like they do.
Silly them!
Norrowmindidness is one huge personal failure, IMHO. IT tells a BIG deal about a person - part of that "first impression" we make when meeting a new person. One ceeses to try to understand things that are out of his/her sight, point of interest, etc.
I don't mean to say that he's a bad person because he doesn't like hip hop, but because he canot accept that others do like it and may even be gifted for it - his idea of different.
Of course, no one is oblidged to accept this "being/acting different" in their lives. Sometimes just making these people aware is extraordinary.

My way of looking at opinions is that people THINK they are right....but I KNOW that I'm the one who's right.
It's my biggest weakness.....and my greatest strength.
DA...there is such a thing as agreeing to disagree. It's never worth losing a friendship over.
