My buddy is in Afganistan...
My really good buddy and one of my best childhood friends is in Afganistan right now. His 6 month tour is pretty much up and he has less than 3 weeks left.
Three Canadian soldiers killed, 5 wounded in Zhari : Home : News : Sympatico / MSN
Those are 3 of his best friends, guys he fights next to daily.
I don't know if he is one of the 5 wounded, but I hope to hell not...and there is no way to know until I either get a msg from him or see his name on the news :/
Everytime I read a canadian soldier has been killed, chances are it is from the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry which just happens to be his battalion.
War sux.

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
Man that's awful Weiser, I hope he's ok. There are times I wish I was back in the military but times like this I'm glad I never went back. Just the training is an eye opener because I've been killed many times in "practice war".

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
I live practically on an Air Force base and see things in the paper all the time about soldiers from here getting killed or injured. I hope it ends soon. My son wants to join the military when he graduates from college. I am not thrilled about it.

TKDLady......VERY few guys that join the military are involved in combat operations. A stint in the Air Force will give your son a great experience that will help his career.

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
I know it will help him in the long run but I still worry that he would be put in the line of fire at some point. I couldn't handle it if something happened to him. It would kill me.

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
As Scott says allot of soldiers work in logistics and electrical/mechanical engineers. I assume the US is like the UK and if he goes career soldier you can pick and choose what direction you go in the armed forces. Joining up can be rewarding and it always looks good on your CV.

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
thats so dreadful, i know people go into this job and know the risks involved, but the shock and blow it still gives you when it happens.
i pray for his mind, soul and heart to heal.

Re: My buddy is in Afganistan...
I am glad that your friend survived the engagement and I am very sorry for his losses.
Was this the first time he lost friends in the war?
