Default Must Be NICE

Ok people,

I cannot remember the last time I took a couple of days just to myself. Monday a friend had Presidents Day off and put his car in the shop, called me, and we spent the next 4 hours at Java Juice, drinking coffee and playing chess. Afterward we picked up a sandwick and played pool for 3 hours.

I dropped him off at the Chevy dealership just as his car was ready and was able to return home and drive the kids to their Catholic Religion class. While waiting for the class to end, my 3 year old daughter and I whiled away an hour at the bookstore, then picked up a chicken dinner at Boston Market before returning home with the boys.

Delilah was anxiously awaiting my return after arriving from her job teaching, and asked what I'd done that day. After I explained, she said:

"It must BE NICE"

To which I replied:

'Yeah, It was! And I'm playing golf tomorrow. When I return home I'm gonna take a nap to rest up for my pool-league that evening, maybe eat a few bob-bons, then if I can stay awake, I'm gonna watch Oprah! Now what are you makin' for dinner?'

Am I so wrong?

No...I don't think you are wrong at all. However, she may be planning to buy you a special card.

I want to add that I've known lots of guys who really work hard for a living....only to come home to a spouse who then wants them to do chores and take care of the kids because she's been 'home' all day and is tired. I really DO find this scenario to be WRONG!!!! (And I meant LOTS of guys...not just a few here and there.)

Glad to hear Deliliah finally went back to work though. How is it working out? Did the kids adjust easily enough?

Yep. This is what makes the remake that "It must be nice" so freakin' ironic: For about a decade I wondered how nice it would be to babysit all day and give someone the "third degree" whe they returned home from work.

Of course, working is harder than lounging around the house, doing light housework now and then...so its one more thing to bitch about; however the level of intensity seems to be dampened by the fact that she's too exausted to keep it up to previous volumes.

No prob with the kids.

Stone.... am I still working? Let me put it this way: I'm still being paid, and my resignation isn't effective until March 10th. I have two job offers to begin March 6th and tomorrow I'm interviewing for another that I hope will top the better of the two I have.

I didn't know you had resigned. What brought that on? (You don't have to reply if you don't want to.) I was just being nosey.

Well, it got boring.

A sure sign that I'm bored is that I'll drift into subject matter that is not acceptable on a "family forum" much less a "public school." Anyway, On November 1st several girls came to class claiming to have "done block shots" during a Halloween party. I didn't know what these were so they showed me the photographic evidence they had posted on the WWW: drinking alcoholic shots from a phallic shaped block of ice.

This was, as you could imagine, quite a shocking sight for someone as delicate as myself, but I managed to recover quickly. The photos accompanied other, much less contraversial pictures (the girls making faces into the camera) that I decided to incorporate into a powerpoint slideshow with the next days lesson about a now more exciting lesson about momentum = mass X velocity.

Anyway, long story short, the lesson was more than entertaining to the school administration, and when the media heard, and broadcast, that the photographs were "pornographic," my fate was sealed. I negotiated a three month severance package," and during this period I've found the other opportunities where I'll be paid more than twice what I made last year, be given a company vehicle, and much better retirement/health benefits.

In other words, it couldn't have turned out better if I'd planned it.
