This is the craziest thing. I mean, I myself can't believe it's happening. I have never EVER saw an adult act like this in my entire life, let alone one that is RELATED to me!

Okay, first, background info. I have a Pitt Bull. She's a big big baby. Due to financial constraints we had to move from a house to a townhouse. We couldn't have her here. She stayed at his mom's place in a kennell. Well her insurance found out about it and told her to remove it from the property or they would have to add it to her insurance making her premium go up like $100 a month. (That's crap but it's another story.)

Seeing how we couldn't have her at the townhouse I was going to sell her. I didn't want to mind you, she's my baby. I'm as attached to her as any child. Out of the blue my sister and law and her worthless husband offer to keep her for a couple months until we can get moved into a house. This was the second week of November. So we take her, her dog house, and all her toys and stuff over there. They have a fenced in back yard so she didn't need her kennell.

My husband talks me into breeding my dog while she's there. I dont' want to mind you, I want to have her fixed. He's adamant he wants a puppy from her bloodline before we fix her so I gave in and bred her with a beautiful big male. In the meantime the inlaw's have gotten themselves a pitt bull and after she ripped the carpet in the house apart they put her outside with my dog. So we put the kennel (it's a portable one) out there so that they can be seperated. (Pitt's have a bad wrap for biting people but most of them do have aggressiveness towards other dogs.) Nothing happened though, they get along fine. Well until my dog gets farther along in her pregnancy then they lock up and my dog hurts the other one pretty bad...do to moodiness.

The very next day the in laws start moving into a house they just bought. (Through the graciousness of family they got the money to do so as he doesn't work a lick and she works in a gas station for straight cash) So anyway it's been a couple of weeks since they've moved in there. My dog is supposed to have her puppies on Sunday the 6th. It takes us over 30 mins to get to the in law's house so we talk to his mom and we decide to take her back out there and put her in the garage so when she has the puppies we can be near her and also it won't be so cold on her. We decide to leave the kennell for now at their place so they can have somehting to put their dog in.

NOW HERE IS THE CLENCHER!!!!

We go out there sunday and we went in and chatted and told them we were getting my dog. His worthless ass doesn't listen for **** and doesn't hear a word we say. So we go out back, get the remainder of her dog food, we put her on her leash and put her in the car. I walk back into the house to tell his sister bye and give our neice a hug and that overbearing worthless ass jumps up and runs outside. He comes back in the backdoor and ask where we're taking the dog. I laughed and said for a ride.

DUDE GOES BEZERK. Tells me I ain't taking that dog anywhere until she has her puppies and storms outside. My sister in law then starts in about a bunch of **** and saying how much money she has invested in that dog and starts grasping at straws about why we can't take her yet. (Um...excuse me...this is MY dog we're talking about!) So anyway she and I are being a little loud but we're not really yelling or anything. Then my husband storms in the house and tells me we're leaving. Apparently the worthless bum had went outside, took my dog out of my car and got up in my husband's face and threatened to "BEAT HIS ASS".

(Please bear in mind this man has been in jail numurous times for assult and battery, the most recent about 6 months ago for beating a guy into critical condition in a pool hall.)

So we go to get into the car and I tell the worthless BUM that I will get my dog back. He gets in my face and calls me a lot of bad names and SLINGS a chain metal dog leash at my head. I dodged it and told my husband to get into the car, because at this point I know that if I dont' get him out of there he'll be in a fight over that kind of stuff.

So we leave and we go to his momma's. They call out there and start running their mouths and I took the phone from my husband and told them it's MY dog and they WILL talk to ME about it. The worthless bum starts telling me we were trying to sneak my dog out of there and that if we had he'd have killed us both. He tells me that's his dog and when I can prove otherwise I'm welcome to file a civil case against him because she's been on his property for 3 months and he can have a dozen or more witnesses saying so.

During all this his sister kept talking about how much money they had invested in my dog. Um...HOW? She wouldn't tell me. She just kept saying it. The only thing they bought her was a $7 dog tag with her name on it. We then gave them $10 back for doing so. We buy a 20lb bag of dog food EVERY WEEK and I know my dog doesn't eat that much but it's sure gone by the time we buy more. We took a dog house, a dog kennell, a dog bowl, and a water bucket with her when we took her there. So where are they getting they have money invested in her? I think that because they are in such a hard spot for money that THEY took deposits on my dog's puppies hoping to make some cash of them too. Well guesss what? She's miscarried them or something as the day all this happened I noticed her milk sacs were drawing up and she isn't big at all consider this was 7 days from her due date. So no puppies.

I have no idea what to do at this point. I am disgusted with the whole situation. I dont' think I'll ever get her back. I don't have the money to file a civil suit or hire a lawyer. Neither does he but his daddy has a lot of money. Which is how he supports his drug habbit. He smokes at least half an ounce of weed a day. THAT'S A LOT OF WEED! My husbands mom and step dad are trying to be mediators in the whole thing and are trying to get her back for me. I'm hoping once he realizes she's not going to have puppies he'll hand her back over as she won't be worth anything to him them....

It's YOUR dog...go pick her up when he isn't home. Do you have any old vet bills or paperwork on her? You could also send them a certified letter asking if there are any receipts they can produce which needs to be reimbursed.

That way....if it ever came up on a legal basis....you are covered. Chances are they won't do anything but be pissed off.....and it sounds as though you won't be missing too much with them not wanting to be visitors.

I would gather anything that states that she's my dog (vet bill with vet's name and phone number so it can be confirmed), call the Police and get the dog. The Police should escort you to go there and get your dog. Wouldn't hurt to have other members of the family as witnesses also.

We called the cops actually, and they told us it was a civil matter and that they couldn't do anything about it as neither of us could prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she's ours.

Merika, we've thought about taking her while he's gone. Problem is...he's never gone. He doesn't work. He hasn't worked for 8 months or more. He occassionally goes to his dad's house but we're usually at work then. Also, I seriously think that if we stole her back he'd try to do bodily harm to both myself and my husband. I've never seen anyone go off the deep end like he did the other day. I don't even want to be in the same state that he lives in.

I think he has to give her over freely for us to have any peace of mind.

Is there any way your mother in law could intervene?

This guy is starting to tick ME off and I don't even know him!

If you are afraid that he will hurt you, then you might want to get a restraining order against him.


Your situation is tough, i mean the way i would handle it isnt legal, but would be very satisfying.

You should call your local legal aid and see what can be done. Some lawyers will take a case pro bono, or they don't get paid until they see something done, but that's usually in cases involving money.

You may also want to check your local animal ordinance and look under ownership laws.

Do you live in the country or the city? If you live in the city, your dog should be registered under your name anyway.

I think this idea falls into the catagory of things that would be fun but not practical...right up there with posoning their dog.


Maybe call the ASPCA and say he beats the dogs.

Honestly, I just don't see a better way other than burning their house down. The problem with a situation like this is one side plays by the rules and the other simply doesn't care and their ignorance seems to be legal. It's ridiculous really.
