Job Troubles ( rant)
My boss might as well be my faimly he is like my uncle but he treats me like his business is MY BUSINESS and he sure doesn't pay like it is. I told him 2 months ago that my last day of work would be May 1 like 10 times.
Anyways I hold a staff meeting once a week and a staff/ CPA meeting once a month. Today was our staff meeting and he called me last night at like 9:00 and told me that he wanted me to bring a few issues up and that he would be overlooking a new ladies resume because he doesn't think she is "working out". This lady has been an employee for 2 weeks she has done more work than any of the people in our firm, she is loyal, works like a dog and I am 110% satisfied with her. I don't care, I refuse to fire her. She's 62, she works her arse off and things have run alot smoother since she's been there.
My boss does this to EVERY SINGLE new employee we get, and I am leaving May 1st so I don't know what he is trying to pull, when I mentioned that to him he said " Heather Noah's school doesn't get out untill the 28th so you don't really HAVE to leave on the 1st" No I don't have to but I WANT to, and if I am in a situation where there is no coverage because he can't get comfortable with the new staff that isn't my problem. He tries to compliment me and say things like " Our clients adore you" "I lose clients if you leave" "You can't be replaced that easy" bla bla bla. I'm over this job and ready to move on PLUS he has all the compliments but won't pay more
So you think I should put it in writing that I am leaving on the 1st? We really don't have that kind of relationship but for god's sake this is getting CRAZY

I'd definately put it in writing just to get the message across. It also doesn't hurt to have a written document for legal reasons, not to say it would ever go that way but better safe than sorry.

Were there any written or verbal pregnancy policy given/discussed at the time you began working there? I would assume they only have to pay you for 6 weeks maternity leave and most women do wait until last minute to begin taking them.....in order to have more after the baby is born.
Maybe you could take a personal leave of absense....but they don't have to pay you or even accept your return.

Then send him a resgnation letter which goes into effect on May 1st. That's a professional way to handle it and he really can't fault you for that or hold a grudge. He maybe a little miffed in the beginning....but as you do business together in the future.....he'll get over it.

Heather, he's thinking BUSINESS. I see no reason for you to do any differently. And keep the good communication line open.
You're a smart lady, I'm sure you can fill him your resignation letter and sugar him into not being ofended... Nothing but a daily job, huh, Heather ?

You are hormonal because you are PREGNANT!!!!! Use this "little" peice of information and make your boss get the whole picture! Or else make a scene in front of him and blame it on the hormones again.
Sorry, just kiddin'!!!

8O Yeah, that could be a possibility!
Give yourself a little more credit. May I ask you what exactly did you tell your client?

I guess it's just the way I said it. client said to another woman " don't inturupt because DAve will just get distracted" and I just laughed and said " Yea Pretty easily"
I guess it wasn't that big of a deal but I wan't in the conversation at all or even in the room so I should have kept my mouth shut. I don't really care thoug. he cracks on me all the time.

I'm the tallest person in the department and all the tables around me are for people who are 5' 4" and shorter. Needless to say that a 12 hour shift does my back a disservice.
