Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Meanon!!!!
I love to watch the different (or surprisingly similar) reactions of women when I call then "darling" or "sweetie" or even "sweet-heart." Not that there is a tremendously wide range of reaction, but there's ALWAYS something ranging from a blush to a slightly nervous smile. I've never had some "feminist" tell me off and accuse me of being patronizing. Maybe I'm just not revolting enough to garnish this reaction.
What surprises me is that there is not really any relationship between the age of the woman and her reaction. Younger women seem just as appreciative of the term of endearment as older ones. The only exception being that older ones seem to receive the comment more as an invitation to more conversation.

Whatever their age or the appearance of the guy, women like to be admired. Why does this surprise you? A guy on a turnstile told me "Beautiful in black" (my clothing colour) the other day as he took my ticket and I was so embarassed I couldn't look at him, but it still made my day
Do women do it back? Here women use endearments with each other a lot and older women use them with men too, but younger women tend not to use them with guys they don't know in case they are misinterpreted. Guys here call each other mate, or lad if it is a younger guy.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Meanon!!!!
Endearments are dedicated strictly to people one knows - I mean in Romanian it is a big come on - almost rude; using terms like "sweetheart" to someone you've never met before.
At best one could use "beautiful", but that's it. I am talking about people over 25. I have no idea how the young crowd talks anymore, they're so... daring, I'm trying not to mix too much with those, lol.

I didn't know that twinkles. Was it the same in France? The French do the social kiss so much I figured they would use endearments to strangers too, but my French is rubbish and I never noticed.
Tell me about it. One of my closest friends on my course is about that age. We're going to Amsterdam after our exams and I'm beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for
Your bar sounds like a friendly place DA

I was talking about Romania. France... in French it is much more current to use terms like "ma belle", "charmante" etc.
Amsterdam with young people must be to die for !!! The thing is... well, given my frecquent outings and all, I kinda hang out a bit more with my sister's friends - mostly under 25. People my age don't go dancing all that often, and if they do, it's more as a social thing, it's not to actually have fun.
Ok, and in one of these outings, Meanon... I kinda overdid it , which makes me want to keep my distance a bit. Not that I regret anything... well, I do, actually, but still it was so much fun, I can't help not smiling!!!

Details, twinkle, I need DETAILS. It sounds like you had a little TOO much fun, but it also sounds like you've learned your lesson. My sister is 26, I have my most fun times out with her.

It's that spooky "I could have written this" thing again. Think of it this way - will you regret it when you're 80? Thought not!

I have the same problem. It's not just the dancing, it's the whole scene - the unpredictability and excitement of it. I like smaller gatherings with friends too, but I find I need a night out on the town at least once a month or I begin to get itchy feet.

In the USA we have these advertisements: Guy or Girl just returns from vacationing in Las Vegas, and has this odd reaction when asked if they enjoyed themselves: Eyes dart from side to side, voice stammers slightly, and they respond affirmatively. Then the motto "What Happens in Vegas, Stays In Vegas," appears on the screen.
