I love potato soup! My mom used to make it when we were kids and I have always made it too.
I recently experimented by eliminating the milk and instead using a package of the kind of gravy mix you buy to make "biscuits and gravy" It's that creamy, peppered gravy. Lord have mercy! I swear, I will never use milk again. Using this gravy is like creating a gourmet potato soup. I use a bit of diced ham and I boil my spuds, onions and ham together in water until my spuds are soft but still a little firm, then I take the potato masher and mash them up, but I leave them kinda chunky. I make the gravy in a separate pan and add it to the potato and water mixure and..........and it's to die for! Anyone else like potato soup also? |

I've never had potato soup before but what you described really sounds fantastic. The only thing I would remove is the onions, me no likey onions.

Luba and Duke, you are both missing out. I've always had homemade potatoe soup so can't tell you what it might be like in a restraunt or out of a can. But it is one of those cold day soups that makes you just feel good and loved while you're eating it. Yes, love really does come in a bowl.
