I'm not happy about the subject either but ignoring it is likely more of a problem than confronting the matter with your child.

Yes we have and from talking with Dwoing this weekend, she new the "intricacies" as well. There's still ground to cover but I think she's getting more input than many other children do, sad to say.

Re: Teen Sex
My son's only 8, I plan on giving him "the talk" when he is 12. Sooner if he brings up the subject. Does everyone agree that's a good age to start?

Re: Teen Sex
As soon as he starts asking questions or showing signs of knowing something I would start talking to him, age appropriate of course.

Opera had an episode that focused on young mothers, some of which were pregnant as early as the age 11. I didn't even know this was possible but apparently, it is.
My daughter just turned 12 a few weeks ago but she's been talking about boys for over 2 years now. We started integrating very watered down, sexual discussion with her around the age of 9 or 10 and she seems to have responded well to it.
I asked her a few weeks ago what she knew and not only did she know a lot but her comfort level in discussing the topic with me was very high. I really don't see the need for "the big talk" but more for hundreds of little talks over several years so by the time your child is a tween 11, 12, their not afraid of the topic and best of all, neither are you.

I think that is the way to go.

Pregnancy is possible as soon as a girl goes into puberty. And that can be any age from 9 upwards i believe. Quite often if you have a mother who reached puberty young so will the daughter. Its sad that kids are having sex that young to get pregnant when they are still only children themselves.
Ive never talked to my parents about sex, nor will i ever! My father thinks im still 5 and my mother just lets me get on with my own thing. When i have children I'll defiantly beach the subject to them, I'd rather know that if and when they do have sex, they are being safe and know the difference of right and wrong.
and especially for them to know they can and should say "no" if they dont want to. peer pressure is so strong on kids now.
