Dragons are simply a cool creature whether they existed or not. I personally like the idea of how Animal Planet is spinning the Dragon myth and building upon it. If you think about it, it is rather odd that so many different cultures use Dragons in myth given the fact many of these cultures could not inter relate with each other when said myths were born.

I saw a special on Dragons and the making of and I believe they mentioned this was the beginning of bringing fabled creatures to life. I wonder if after Dragons, if they will tackle unicorns or perhaps lockness?

Who says Dragons are monsters?

I believe this special tries to make us see a different side of the Dragon, one of a loving parent that will give it's life for its young.

Man has a nasty habit of chasing animals away from their habitat as he systematically destroys the Earth in his quest for comfort. If Dragons did actually exist and they did hurt humans, can it not be construed more as self defense rather than just plain nastiness?

Man is afraid of animals that don't instinctively run and hide from him. Every year we shoot and kill animals such as bears, alligators, coyotes, lions, etc., and for what, because they invaded our territory and put our fellow man at risk? Is this fair given it was the animals land (not ours) in the first place?

I think we're tyrants of the natural world. You would think with all this technology and all the advancements we've made as a species that we'd be able to give back to mother nature rather than continually rape her.

I know my response has gone way off topic so maybe I'll split it in interests of another article but I just wanted to put some perspective on our "fear" of animals. I believe many of these animals fear us more than we fear them but they will do whatever they can to defend themselves (as we do) yet we persecute them for it.

I agree with you Duke. A couple weeks ago an alligator was found in a creek around here near where families live. One parent was upset because her kids swim in that creek, well, welcome to Florida lady. Put a pool in your back yard. I know there will probably be a hunt for alligators in this area now. I personally would just stay away from areas I know they frequent. They were here first.

I can imagine people having issues with say polar bears in New York City. But issues with alligators in Florida???

Funny thing is, if someone who is people-phobic, we allow them not to live in the city (and prevent that person from going on a rampage). Yet we actively track down all these animals who have no interest in the city ....

Default Re: Dragons

if you think about it, most animals only attack when being attacked.

also who tends to start it off/ the animal or the human?

Majority of time, humns will attack an animal for a number of reasons, fear, sport, even for the sake of it.

if you read fabled stories and such, knights could go out and kill a dragon to earn power and respect. the only crime the dragon commited was being there. If dragons were as big and powerful as they say, surely that knights entire town could of been wiped out very easily if the dragon had malicious intent?

even in the stories and myths dating hundreds of years back, humans were the ones who started the war against other living creatures. the ultimate goal of humans is to defeat those stronger then itself, things that are considered a threat. For all we know, we could of lived very peacefully alongisde a dragon.
