Default Steven Wright Colloquialisms

Why do they call it a driveway when you park in it?

Drive-away? with the first 'a' of 'away' being cancelled out?

I wonder if it started as an alley way behind or beside people's home when less people had cars and could park them in places like that.

I like 'finer than a frogs hair split three ways'. HAHAHA! I don't know where THAT came from either. My Grandmother used to say it.

Could be making jokes of negation. The same with the sentence: "This sentence is false."
If the sentence is false, the "false" does not apply, apparently. Which means the sentence is actually true. If the sentence is true, the sentence is false, as per its contents.

You can lie about taking a lie-detector test in a similar way.
However, it would be even more interesting when a person lies about taking a lie-detector test, when actually being tested. Does the truth show up then, or does it not?

I wonder what would happen if politicians had to take a public lie detector test a week before people go out to vote.

They would get arrested for a lot of offenses, and severe crimes.

It WOULD be a good idea though...wouldn't it??? It would be a great election ploy, if someone was actually honest, to challenge their opponent to take the test with them.

Ofcourse the trick would be in actually finding an honest one!

I would say, that would lead to a surprise: "Independent Candidate becomes President of the US. Only 3 valid votes in total were cast in 50 States."

Testing would be awesome. It might actually do a lot of good press for politics as a profession, because such a thing would at least start to dispel negative thoughts and stereotypes that exist about politics.

It often seems that politicians hold us to much higher standards than they hold themselves to.
