One would have to be really paranoid to have a bed like that! I wouldn't like it since I'm clostaphobic. I'd feel like i'm sleeping in a coffin.

To make certain that everything is organized perfectly. At times, when people feared to be buried alive, "safety" considerations were also taken - to make certain that the not so dead, could alarm those around, and be taken out of the coffin alive.
