No surprises there. I wish TV were to be made an illegal medium. I think it would solve quite a few social problems...

I agree to an extent but I know Oprah's show is actually a Talk Show that is aimed at trying to do good instead of increasing ratings via controversy. I've only ever seen one or two episodes but she seems to be a very caring lady who genuinely wants to make a difference and I have respect for that.
Another example of a show I think that does it right is The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I love Leno for the fact that he laughs at himself as much or more than he does the world around him. I really believe the best humor is humor directed at one's self first and then projected outward (if need be).

Re: Oprah leads in Television Earnings
The great thing about them is you can tell that their both great people so it makes watching them a good thing. I for one feel very happy for Oprah making the money she does, she worked hard for it and deserves every penny.

Oprah opens school for girls in S. Africa - Celebrity News - MSNBC.com
This is somewhat old news, but I watched the program when she opened this school and I cried throughout....

Re: Oprah leads in Television Earnings
The intention may be good, but that does not mean the outcome is good. This is a big issue in South Africa - a country filled with lots of good intentions - but that does not mean policies are always good. Or even properly executed.
TV as a whole is a deceptive medium. And although the Oprah - S.A. story is a good story from the US perspective, it has caused quite a bit of controversy in SA.

Re: Oprah leads in Television Earnings
Ya but I don't believe you can blame the medium for this because its not TV thats the culprit, its propaganda. We're not allowed to hear the bad about our countries because of its potential for adverse effects on patriotism.
As far as I know, this is the reason virtually every subject in grade school is subjectively taught and edited not just by our teachers but by government regulation of what can and cannot be included in teaching aids.
I know for a fact that had I been taught better in school, I'd either be a computer scientist right now or perhaps a Historian.
