Movie, The Passion of the Christ
Well since there seemed to be so much diversity in the reviews from people I know, I thought I'd actually check this movie out. To be completely honest, this is prolly the only time I can ever honestly say that I'm unsure of whether or not I liked the film. It's just not that simple.
I will say that this show is definately worthy of the title Epic. That's really the only thing I can comment on this movie in a positive (or negative) manner. I can say that it is simply one of the most brutally painful movies I've ever experienced. The things that Jesus goes through are horrifying to say the least. By the time they were done with him he looked like raw hamburger.
I've never been a religious person and this movie isn't likely to change that. I do go to church but only on rare occasions. This may be partially due to something I hold as a justification for why I don't pray, or an excuse, again, depending on your point of view. Do I believe in God, Yes and No.
I think I'm just rambling here and for that I truly apologize. I've never seen a show that moved me in the way this one did but am completely unsure of how it moved me. I can say that this is a 2 hour vision into the worst traits humanity has to offer. It is such a total assault on the senses, at least for me. I simply cannot believe (even though I do somehow) that one man can endure so much pain from so many. The physical pain likely not even equal to the mental anguish. This man was hated badly enough for public torture that lasted days and spanned several miles.
If you've seen the movie, I encourage you to post here and give me your thoughts. It's quite clear that I still have no coherant thoughts of my own.
