Default More Power Baby

I ordered two more stix of 256MB RDRAM for my computer, it's gonna smoke now, w00t.

There's a lot of good computer places out there that offer hardware cheap such as NCIX.com and Tiger Direct.com.

What are your thoughts on us linking to these type of sites for online purchases?

Alkali is the puter wiz I depend on. Hopefully, since he's online....he'll post his opinion. IF NOT....I'll solicit it over coffee sometime tomorrow.

RDRAM is good if it wasn't so damn expensive. Newegg is a good link though, thanks.

Well I'll be more happy if I can get 60 FPS out of Half Life 2.

Links to component vendors are always interesting and I'll often browse them a little. When it comes down to buying components I'll almost always use the little Mom and Pop computer store down the road. I hate waiting for stuff and I hate paying shipping and handling charges which often offset any savings from using mail order. I build enough computers with components from M & P that I have no problem getting software at the OEM prices...a big difference on items like MS Office Pro, XP pro or Adobe Photoshop.

Another source of parts is the "Market Pro" computer show the comes around once a month (this weekend). Most of the stuff they carry was top of the line 3 months ago but not today...Who cares unless you're competing with Mr. Jones for the latest and greatest.

As you upgrade for speed and performance don't forget to check the access time on your hard drive. Go for fast rather than big, you can always add another drive for storage space.

No it's a RAM and Hard Disk killer, it's the longest loading game I've ever played.

As for storage space, I have two Maxtor 7200 RPM Hard Disks that are very close to full believe it or not. That's 120 GB of crap that I can't get rid of for one reason or another. Half Life 2 is close to 9 GB and Doom 3 is around 7. Fraps is closing in on 20 because of all the video clips I store for upcoming ingame movies.

When I pick up the new RAM, I'll hopefully be starting an IL 2 Forgotten Battles movie based loosely on the very successful dogfighting career of Erich Hartmann and his ME 109 G-6. I'll have to do some skinning in the game to replicate his plane and research the terrain and weather conditions of the more famous dogfights. I'm thinking the whole project will take about 6 months and the 3 minute movie will be set to Rammstein music.
