Default Kids Comic Books

I've enjoyed reading comic books since I was a kid. I've recently re-discovered them and I've liked catching up with old titles. Comic books nowadays, however, are quite a bit different - more violence and adult themes. But, I recently found a couple comic books series that are made just for kids. Its the "Marvel Age" series from Marvel comics that features Spider Man and the Fantastic Four. If you like comic books and wanted a way to share it with your kids, these are a great idea...

Great link d00d, thanks.

I remember back in the day when The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show had every cartoon edited for violent content. You could no longer view all the clips of the explosion, just the explosion and character aftermath. Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn, and Coyotee cartoons were the main ones edited for content, how stupid was that?

I've actually seen death, betrayal, lies, stealing, etc., on cartoons as my daughter ages and can't believe they would allow that but we can't see coyote take two rounds from a shotgun to his face.

I miss Bugs Bunny, too! Loved Foghorn, Sylvester and little Sylvester with the bag over his head! Saturday mornings were great when those cartoons came on!

I can live without all those. The one cartoon that does stand out (really, no clue why) for me is Yosemite Sam. Especially the episode, where he is riding a camel, and it is not obeying too well.

Makes no sense to me. Children are able to play games like UT2k3 and all that, CNN and other stations are allowed to have embedded reporters in war conflicts, with footage showing up at the insanest of hours. Not to mention the thousands of series and movies with extremely violent content, where actually (think you) see dead bodies, bullets piercing bodies, etc. Not hard to get access to, especially if a family has 3 or 4 televisions in the house.

Not too happy about the death part. But the rest is sadly a part of life, one should not be ignorant of. These days, if people can screw you, there are quite a number of people who would. However, whether such content is appropriate for all ages....

One of the first cartoons I saw was of Donald Duck. I was 3 years old or so, and my parents just had their first video-recorder. I saw it over, and over and over again. Why? Probably because of his anger attacks - not too enlightening either. But if Enlightenment were the criterion, I'd estimate that at least 90% of everything that is on, would be banned :S.

I grew up on bugs, daffy, foghorn leghorn, sylvester, the road runner and coyote and I don't think I am damaged because of it. What they show now is worse in my opinion. I can't believe the things they show on prime time anymore and cartoons now are so stupid.

That does not hold for all cartoons though. Some of them are quite humorous, with lots of comments on the real-world insanity (i.e. how people are supposed to live). Then again, as a young teenager you are probably not going to notice all that.

I agree with everything you said, except that I was a Mother already when I watched these cartoons with my boys...and even when they grew up and left home...until they were taken off the air
