George Phillips of Grand Falls, NFLD. was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the RCMP and told them that there were burglars in his shed.

The officer asked, "Is someone in your house?" and he said no.

The officer replied that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at George's house. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them."

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

I would not be surprised if you could end up in jail for 5 years for doing that.

I like the way that guy thinks. My luck, I would get thrown in jail for making emergency vehicles come that don't need to be there.

Me, too! But how else could you get the police to come and catch the burglars? What could he have done differently anyway?

it depends on where you live...out here in oklahoma people shoot robbers regularly and its seen as normal...in texas the law allows you to shoot anyy trespasser after dark.

Where my granny lives in West Virginia she used to have a problem with strangers trying to come up into her house and take stuff and once tried to kidnapp my momma. A sherriff once told her to shoot them and if she happen to shoot them in the yard to drag them at least on to the porch and he could call it self defense. She shot one guy but only glanced his leg so he ran off...

It is really sad that a bad guy has to actually get into your house for you to protect yourself and even then he could turn around and sue you or something. Since when did the criminals have more rights than the victims? There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

I agree with you. criminals have more rights then victims do and it's been that way for a long time. At least here in canada it is. It's pathetic actually.
