Download Accelerator Programs

Just another question, does anyone use an accelerator program? I downloaded DAP2 which has less spyware in it than the original version (it says it has none....but I doubt it). I did notice some difference, but I'm not even sure how to use the thing yet.

I don't use one. A lot of sites, I make downloads off, have anti-leeching programs in use - I would get temporarily banned if I used one.

Why would a DAP be considered a leech? I'm just asking because I have no idea how these things work.

I don't know exactly what DAP does, but most of the download accelerators use more bandwith, by making multiple requests. For instance they start to download the file at two or more points (at the start, and half-way the file). Thereby limiting access to the download to other people. Most sites are not too fond of that, for various reasons, sometimes going so far as to even ban users who abuse the file-servers.

Duke can probably give you more specifics.

Very interesting! I guess that WOULD cause your download speed to increase.
