Default computer parts

i need to buy new computer parts but im not sure what i should get.
I need a new power supply and my CPU is running really hot so i think i should replace that and a motherboard, and buy a few case fans.

i cant decide between a low end amd sempron 3000+ which is $88 or the much better athlon 64 3000+ which is $140 but comes with a free case(no power supply) Any opinions

I have an AMD 64 3000 (not sure about the +).
It's pretty nice, but I haven't switched the the 64-bit version of windows, since you can't run all the programs (mainly games) as with the 32-bit version.

My current CPU fan is an older version of this.
Mine is all copper and, though big, it works great and looks awesome.
It's kindof big, but there's still room for everything else.

How much RAM do you have now?
RAM is a great way to speed up your computer for fairly cheap.
You can get some good deals on it online, if you know what kind to get.
I like to keep an eye on www.edealsinfo.com, every once and awhile they'll have RAM for really cheap (like 512 DDR PC2700 for 30 bucks).

If you have the money, I suggest buying the best parts you can now and then you won't need to upgrade for awhle (2 - 3 years, is awhile for me when it comes to components).

i bought a sempron 2500, that im gonna overclock to a 2800. a new motherboard and a new power supply, unfortunatly im an idiot and bought a 24 pin ATX power supply for my 20 pin ATX motherboard and now i have to wait an extra day to fix my computer because all the stores were closed by the time i noticed it.

The CPU fan is the amd retail one with 3 year warrenty. I also got 3 case fans to help with the cooling, and the new power supply has a 120mm fan(my old one was 60mm)

I have 768MB of RAM, so im not hurting there, my biggest bottleneck now is my video card, its only a GF4 Ti 4200. I went low end cause im gonna build a new system, a top end one next year.

Duke did you read my post showing that AMD processors are better for gaming?

I read it da but I will not be purchasing AMD ever again. I spent way too much money on an AMD and kicked the side in of it so many times that the side panel no longer fits.

You have to remember that as with all manufacturers, processor clock speeds is a race. Even if AMD were on top (which their not since there isn't a tremendous amount of software that utilizes 64 bit) they would not be there for long.

BTW, I hope your board has PCI Express for video because it loox like AGP's days are numbered.

Athlon 64 run both 64 bit and 32 bit, so it doesnt matter if not a lot of software is 64 bit. AMD increases its lead with every generation, intel continues to lag behind. AMD has nearly 40% market share now. But yeah, whatever works for you. No my board doesnt have PCI express, i didnt get it cause i didnt want to buy a new video card. my system works now, as i found that i can use a 24 pin connector and just dangle the last 4 pins.
