Colin McRae: DIRT.
I've been keeping my eyes on this title but I'm starting to think that maybe it isn't' all that as I previously thought. Apparently, there is no more weather so forget the rain and windshield wipers removing it (which was awesome btw in the previous title) and there are no more snow courses as well.
On top of this, there is no side by side online racing so forget the fun of LAN, it's only a clock you try to beat, not another car.

WRC: World Rally Championship. WRC Teams.
WRC Montage Definitely a Must See!
Colin McRae
Dirt
Dirt Trailers Definitely a Must See! The first video looks like an FMV (forward moving video) render so I don't think it's what the game looks like but the second video in the link is purely game play based.

Re: Colin McRae: DIRT.
Without LAN and weather conditions such a game is not viable IMO.

Re: Colin McRae: DIRT.
dirt isnt a bad game, just not as good as some of the previous ones, the reason why is that the focus for development was console gaming and not PC.

This doesn't matter when the game is developed along side a console title and not simply a port. There are many games out there that develop for console in tandem with PC as it's just a good way to increase your audience as well as bring the original vision to life in a way that only PC's can do.
There are a lot of aspects of this game that make it as close to a SIM as any rally title can be but the problem is the engine their using to run the game shows its limits in larger environments and side by side racing. I've read a number of reviews that also state the console version of the game shows limitations in framerates now and then which is pretty unacceptable as the only reason I can see for buying a console is fluidity in gameplay. Nobody in their right minds purchases a console for cutting edge visuals because visuals in consoles never have and never will hold a candle to PC games.
I will still purchase the game mind you but only in the interests of single player as it simply is useless as a LAN game which is what made CMR2005 good (not great). IMHO, they should have kept with the weather and altered the side by side racing to be real cars and not that stupid red ghostcar of your opponent. As arcadey as TOCA is, at least racing online is against other cars so bumping and being aggressive can see your car totaled. As far as I can remember, I've never seen this kind of racing intensity in any of the CMR titles to date and if you race online (as I like to do), you simply cannot experience the tension of bumper to bumper without having other cars vying for road space while swapping paint.
I'll be re-installing CMR2005 on my rig and comparing it to the demo of Dirt. If there are no huge, noticeable, differences in rally intensity, I may skip dirt all together and pick up Flight Simulator X as you can fly helicopters in it.

Re: Colin McRae: DIRT.
I tried the dirt demo on the 360 and it looked like fun and personally, rally driving side by side would ruin it for me as rally events don't do that but I just bought Forza 2 so Dirt might have to wait a while, even longer if I get GTR2 for the PC.

I know what you mean on side by side realism in rally but I mention it only for online play. I've played a lot of CMR2005 in LAN and it's just far more intense to race an opponent rather than an opponents time trial. CMR2005 had this feature but your opponent was rendered as a red ghost car so we could drive through each other which was lame.
All I'm asking for is Codemasters to take the next logical step and add body to the other players car.
As for GTR2, do your homework. You may be better off with rFactor as GTR2 is based off the rFactor game engine. rFactor also has plenty of mods still coming out but I'm not sure this can be said for GTR2. Lastly, I have rFactor so we could race

Re: Colin McRae: DIRT.
Well, there are a few people on whom I would not mind to practice my plastic surgery skills on .
If I were as adept at making money in real life as I am in games, I would have retired a long time ago.
