Slowly set limits... I had my 1st SERIOUS relationship when I was 14 I dated him for 2 years. I think my parents made a HUGE mistake by letting me have a boyfriend so young. I was more concentrated on my b/f than school.

I voted for dependant on childs age and maturity combined. Everyone matures differently and I think that means mental as well as physical. No plan is right for everyone so I'd rather discuss the topic with my child so we both understand each other.

I also believe that this will keep me in the loop when the time comes.

I chose based on maturity shown. Every child is different as Duke said and matures at different rates. For example, my oldest who is 16 is much less mature minded then my 12 year old is.

I started dating at the age of 15 and it was OK for me. I had fun! My cousin wasn't allowed to date until she was 16 and she's still with that same guy. Her one and only.

What do you consider mature enough?

I guess I was the same way angelcindy.....but my parents would've never let me out of the house dressed like a hooker! I blame a lot of that on the music industry where the singers just look and act like anorexic ****s!
It makes me nauseated just to watch them.

i totally agree with you on that one merika. Britney started it all with her really low pants and tiny little belly shirts (she might as well be wearing nothing at all for god sakes!). Her audience were mostly pre-teens and here she was dressed like a ****.

the other thing too is the rap music. i know that i'll probably get beat up for this one but i truly believe that a lot of that rap does have an effect on kids. i know it had something to do with my daughter turning into a "bad girl". she was so hooked on eminem and lived by his words to the tee. I've thrown so many of his cd's in the garbage! He's just evil!

Kids today do try to grow up too fast. As parents, we have to try to keep them kids and set limits. I did with my girls. worked on one and not the other. go figure :?

I think Isis wrote something about rap music on the Peer Pressure thread. If kids don't like it (she happens to be a big opera freak....go figure!) then the other kids not only laugh at them....but say they are prejudice! GEEZ!

A lot of rap is very foul. I'm no prude...but what is on television and on the radio is not only inappropriate....but offensive. Beyond that...it sounds like CRAP! I still have a hard time considering it 'music'.

I never thought rap was music. they don't sing, they talk. and the messages they send to kids are terrible. it's all violence and drugs.

My oldest is caught in all that crap. she looks like a hooker the way she dresses. it's really embarassing when we go someplace and she's dressed like that. my youngest has respect for herself and dresses and acts appropriately.

They don't make music like they used to anymore. the 80's rocked! it was so good that all these little pop stars are doing remakes! LOL!

Yeah...I've noticed they were so musically gifted until they've ran out of original music! hahahaha!

Don't you hate it so when they take a really good 80's song and screw it up?
