Default Teens and changing behaviours

This year I have noticed that some of my friends have "changed". Not only do they look different, they act different too! I've noticed that a few of my friends (girls) have been talking about "hot" guys more (including myself) and have also started reading magazines about fashon, make-up and the latest beauty-care products.

But my guy friends changed alot too. Alot of them have been talking about girls (us) alot and also saying they have kissed a girl when they havn't. The latest drama at my school was caused because one of my guy friends told everyone at school that he "made-out" with one of my girl friends. It obviosly was NOT true, infact she didn't even like him (as a boyfriend). I have also noticed that the guys have started being physical with us. For example they will slap our butts or stare at us...

It makes it really awkward to be around them because they never used to be like that.

Another thing is drugs and achohal. One of my friends stole some "weed" from his big brother and smokes it all the time. Another one of my friends bought a beer and drank it with two of my other friends. One beer may not seem alot to adults, but we are only thirteen...

It's creepy to know that already this stuff is happening to my friends.

I am Dutch. The Dutch are far more liberal than most people with regards to weed. But it is well documented that use of weed in children who are still growing up and developing, does have bad effects on your health and well-being. Even the Dutch would think this is a bit too young to start with such behaviors to put it mildly.

In this case, it seems your friend's parents and siblings are not thinking of the consequences of access to weed. And it seems the shop personnel are not following the laws either.

As you said, you are growing up. Part of it is to explore what that exactly means. Imitation of "adult" behavior (starting relationships, alcohol, and other things) is one way of exploring.

It is indeed a bit creepy. It is good that you are aware of these changes, and the reasons behind them.

The most important thing is to stick to your own sound judgement. Don't do things because others make them out to be cool, but because you want to do them yourself.

Indeed, "creepy."

Like Vautrin says, you will be exposed to a lot of "creepy" things. Hold on TIGHT, the ride has just begun!!!

The best way to survive is to remain focused: Pick a sport. Pick a subject at school. Pick a few friends that do the same. This is what I believe Vautrin means when he says, "Stick to Your Own Sound Judgement."

(Expert Hint: Stay away from Myspace, Facebook, Etc.)

I realize it sounds simple. It is, especially for me and Vautrin, because we are not 13. Believe me: There is nothing that would compel me to change places with you.

Good Luck!!!

Dwoing, I'm not just saying this because I am your Grandmother, but because I know you to be wise beyond your years! Stay true to what you know and believe to be right; no matter what is happening around you! It will help you through the entire Course of your life; that is the only wisdom I can impart. You have sound judgment!

The more you grow up, IMO the more you will realise that for one reason or the another, there starts to be no norm anymore - with regard to behaviour; personal choices, etc.

It's quite shocking to you, because those guys have obviously started acting out of the line - visibly. But I am sure girls do the same, it's just that your being a girl, you don't realise it anymore. I'm sure wearing make up and a trendy clothes is in the norm - or maybe more socially more acceptable - so boys do what they'll always do: act stupid.

Don't let that get to you or get impressed by that. I'm sure tomorrow one of your collegues will come up with something even more silly! Like Luba said, if you keep our act together, you'll be alright and have loads of fun with your friends.

Sorry about the confusion, but reading this:

I thought she was one of the "Hot" guys.

Dwoing should have written:

"I've noticed a few of my friends (girls, including myself) have been talking about 'hot' guys more......"
