Default How was / is your childhood?

I was just wondering how was your childhood or if you're a child, how is your childhood?

Basically just the typical normal childhood. Hung out with friends, played sports, didn't get into computers till later on. Random road trips, stuff like that. I guess it was the best normal childhood someone could have.

Oddly enough....one of my most specific memories was when I was in 7th Grade. I was mad at my Mom and was going to pay her back by not eating the stupid lunch she had made me.

By the end of the day, before I went home from school, I felt SO GUILTY....until I sat next to the dumpster fixing my lunch so that she would think I had eaten it. (I left a couple of bread crusts in the baggy and some apple.....it was so stupid since normally I didn't bring home left over lunch stuff to begin with.) Then, I went home and made sure it was on the top of our kitchen garbage so she would see it.

I made the decision then I would never try to hurt her feelings again and then spent the rest of my life honestly trying not to hurt people's feelings. I've not always succeeded....but the guilt I go through is worse than whatever they were feeling at the time. I'm a complete SCHMUCK to this day!

Again.....STUPID story.....but it turned out to have life changing results.

My childhood sucked most of the time. I had parents who were alcoholics and never home so my 2 brothers and I basically raised ourselved.

Having a childhood like that really did make me a strong and independant person and it has made me into the person I am today. With my kids, I did things differently. I stay at home with them and give them lots of love, kisses and I love you's everyday.

My parents are great people now (no longer drinking for the past 20 years) and wouldn't trade them in for anyone else in this world. They are awesome grandparents to my kids and always there now when I need them for anything.

I hear that star. Nothing better than a lack-luster childhood to show you the ins and outs of poor parenting and how to avoid them like the plague.

My youngest brother passed away in an accident at home at age 4, at this time I was about 9 years old, my mother ( and I can't blame her) had to be Institutionalized for months at a time and constantly tried to commit suicide, so I lived with my other brother in our pastors home for several months and had Nannys live in our home after.

In the " In Between years" 10-13 I was spoiled rotten, I got anything and everything I wanted. Then I turned in to a Rotten Teenager. But I learned alot from that experience.

My childhood was not wonderful but my parnets tried very hard to make it wonderful when they we're around.

*hugs* Stone and Star

I was very blessed. I was set up for a crappy childhood (unwed Mom very young- drug addict Father later committed suicide) but all in all I had a wonderful childhood.

Grandparents and Uncles swooped in to help Mom- she worked while going to college- yet I can not think of 1 event (sports, plays, etc...) she missed- she even helped me w/my homework! We had spats but all in all I was very happy.

To repay her kindness I waited til I was 19 to go young and dumb rebel- by then it wasn't her prob. LOL Not terribly funny but at least I kept the worst of my trouble from her.

My childhood was good, nothing really crazy going on, though my parents are tough and some of the things they did have caused some of my issues.

Have you ever thought to tell them that? Maybe their recognition of the fact may contribute to your healing process. Just a thought.

My childhood sucked. I was adopted. My adoptive mom was not very loving. In fact, as punishment she would make me eat on the toilet seat (lid down) for years. The neigborhood kids called her the "witch" and wouldn't come over to play. My brother molested me and was a total psychopath. He is an alcholic and drug abuser and is not in the state pen for 50 years. My dad was pretty cool. He was funny. He was pretty passive though and my mom walked all over him. He died about 10 years ago. Mommy Dearest is still alive.

Well, it's the truth. I just realized what I wrote in a drug-induced stupor. Maybe I should refrain from posting when I'm in that state. Anyways, thanks for caring guys.
