Default Why Do We Dream?

A question by a new member made me want to research it. Here are some Websites I found that have interesting conclusions.

http://www.coolquiz.Why do we dream?:

The expectation fulfilment theory of dreaming

Why do we dream?: Scientific American

Default Re: Why Do We Dream?

There are many dimensions to this question. Not only WHY do we dream- but what IS a dream?

Night dreams, day dreams, Buddhism argues that are conscious self is a dream, etc....

A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM
Edgar A. Poe

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow --
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand --
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep -- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

This could be an EPIC thread if all points are addressed

How come I can't remember my dreams? I'm almost convinced I don't dream...

Everyone dreams. Perhaps the things you address in your sleep do not need to be addressed when you are awake.

Do I need to go to an Opium Den before I begin to interpret Edgar's Poetry?

Because reality is too discomforting most of the time.
