Celebrate YOUth! On August 12, 2006, youth around the world will celebrate their achievements, accomplishments, and aspirations by planning and participating in International Youth Day (IYD) activities. This is a day to stand out and be counted as passionate and energetic youth creating a better world.
This year's theme is "Tackling Poverty Together". The World Youth Report 2005 states that over 200 million young people, or 18 percent of all youth, live on less than one dollar a day, and over 88 million youth are unemployed.
IYD is a day for you to approach and rally support from governments, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, businesses, and other young people to strengthen the ability to tackle poverty together.
