I don't know where it originated from, but I do know that Spanish-speaking people fear the 13th too - but then it is on a Tuesday :?.

My Mother was superstitious about Wednesday the 13th...I wish I knew why and how that originated for her.. :?

It may be related to Russian superstition. Even the English and the Spanish differ substantially, on whether or not the 13th is an unlucky day.

Sadly, I have no easy means available to confirm my guess.

To the Taiwanese people (maybe Chinese too, but not sure) the number 4 is bad. The word in Chinese sounds almost exactly like their word for death. There are no 4th floors in buildings just like there are no 13th floors in the US for the most part.
