Do You Think a Teacher...
has a lot to do with how well you do in his/her Class? If you love a Subject and the teacher didn't inspire you, would you still do well? Would you lose interest if a teacher just droned on?
I had a Science teacher who 'just droned on' and it was, by far, my worst grade EVER! I think he did me in for ever learning anything in Science! It looked like I was never meant to be a Scientist because I had another chubby little guy for a teacher who thought the sun rose and set on him, and I didn't learn anything there, either, except to totally dislike the man!

Re: Do You Think a Teacher...
I think a teacher has a lot to do with how well you do in his/her class. Enjoying the subject helps obviously. As far as loving a subject and having a less then inspiring teacher, I think I would do well but not go the extra mile for any extra credit type things.

Re: Do You Think a Teacher...
I will never forget my Grade Two and Three teacher. She was the first one who ever showed faith in me and I loved her. I have such fond memories of her, and can still picture that beautiful, white, wavy hair! She encouraged me with my Art. I remember being a part of such fabulous murals!

Re: Do You Think a Teacher...
Of course.
Teachers should be people that kids like to be around. Often this means they are a bit essentric, because kids tend to like animation. This means that the closer a teacher is to being Bugs Bunny, the better teacher they are.
The problems arise when Teachers cannot break out of this animated character, and this can understandably be a fine line. How they deal with administrators, parents, and serious psychological/emotional problems they find in the classroom must reflect a level of maturity well beyond Bugs Bunny's.
It takes some skill to be able to navigate across this boundry, and many teachers simply give up trying. They choose the safe option: Be Deadly Serious 100% of the time. No teacher has lost their job because their kids were bored in science class.

From experiance at school, if the teacher doesn't inspire then forget it, I'm not going to learn anything. If the teacher inspires and is a good communicator then you'll do well.

The problem in the Netherlands is that teachers have to fill out so many forms that they simply don't have the time to actually spend time on preparing lessons, and individual care of students when needed. And because of the bureaucracy the best teachers seem to have left the profession already.

Re: Do You Think a Teacher...
Absolutely. I had this new, young, gorgeous Geography teacher and I swear I was not trying too hard, I just became passionate about the suject, lol!
To me, teachers are path openers and I am/was very curious/passionate about learning or should I say about being taught. That's the story of my life: being very good at what I like and just passing at everything else - which is a pitty, in the end, but hey, we are what we are!

I'm not sure that this is a problem limited to the Netherlands.
We, I include teachers, must not forget that they are government employees. In fact, although they often complain about their pay, as government employees, they are VERY well paid (a beginning Teacher can make almost 2 X a beginning Army officer).
Government employees are publically accountable. They MUST fill out forms to document their work. Part of the Game.

I think you should! Bet the tennis teacher is gorgeous too
I'm useless at passing stuff that doesn't interest me. If I can talk to interesting people as I learn, all the better. I get more intolerant of boredom as I get older.

Lol. Let's
Seriously, it causes me so many problems. Having staff makes it worse, I delegate anything boring. Waiting makes me anti-social. Thank God for mobiles.

I positive we are slowly but surely reverting.
In 20 years I plan to have the patience of an 18 year old.
Thank goodness for Modern Pharmacueticals.

Re: Do You Think a Teacher...
I don't know anyone as impatient as me, not even my kids
Luckily my patience with people is endless, unless they are keeping me waiting or boring me in a meeting
