Let's pick a subject and everyone who wants to learn something list one fact about:Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day or Groundhog's Day is a traditional festival celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2.

Everyone could pick any subject on their own post and we could all learn something every day.

According to legend, if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather. If he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring.

He didn't see his shadow this year so we should expect an early Spring.

Wiarton Willie was a famous Canadian groundhog who lived in the community of Wiarton in Bruce County, Ontario. Every February 2, Willie took part in the local Wiarton Willie Festival. His role was to predict if there would be an early spring.

The earliest known American reference to Groundhog Day can be found at the Historical Society of Berks County in Reading, Pennsylvania

In traditional weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end.

If the groundhog sees its shadow in bright and clear weather, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks.
