I haven't read any of them, and doubt very much that it would be my thing. Though I must admit that any work of fiction that generates as much blogosphere detestation as this series of books does may be in line for some sort of back-handed compliment on that basis alone. Some of the criticism seems fair (Meyers' apparent out of control passive voice) some does not (quite a few folks fixated on Meyers being a Mormon for some odd reason, not sure how you proslytize via a vampire book, personally) but it does seem as a general thing you are more likely to like the books if (1) you are under age 20 and (2) are female. Since I am neither, I doubt this is one for me.
FWIW, I read a couple of the
Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter books and didn't absolutely hate them, though since they seemed to get rather repititive rather quickly, I stopped after the second or maybe the third. Plus Laurell K. Hamilton seems to have decided that since sex sells the more she stuffs into each book the better. My wife read the series through the fourth or fifth book and told me that that aspect had basically become the series. Too bad, since the first book was not bad at all, it certainly had an interesting premise, the second was a rehash of the first with some kinky sex thrown in, and things have apparently spiralled downhill from there. But they still sell like crazy. Go figure.
