Default Swarming

CANOE -- CNEWS - Crime: Teen girls swarm mother, son

"It's unbelievable," deputy police Chief Ian Peer said yesterday "It's beyond me where the parental control is. And if they're not there, then some agency needs to step in and take control."

------------------------------------------------------------------

The ever-ongoing question; why are teens and young people so angry and so mean? Is it ever going to get better?

Sadly, often parents blame everything but themselves and their kids for such behavior .

How is it that this and bullying is happening so much now? Has it always been this way and we just hear more about it because of the Media? Why do, we as parents, not see this anger happening in our kids? Is it denial or what? Is it because parents are So stressed out with just eaking out a living that they are too tired to deal with their children?

I think media is reporting on it more (than before),
but I also think it is happening more.

Part of it is because aggressiveness gets a lot of rewards in society. And it is actually promoted more and more (half of the time because it is considered to be "assertiveness" which is something completely different).

I think they do especially in MySpace. It is one of the things I have talked to my kids about. Facebook is a little different but generally provides the same information. You have to be a "Friend" to see most of their information. Still scary. The main reason I joined MySpace and Facebook was to keep an eye on my kids. I want to be sure to catch anything that is stupid if I can.

They can have multiple accounts, one that you know about and check, and the other.......

i think if i had children i wouldnt let them use myspace. maybe not even facebook. i'd let them however use forums. people dont generally (and i know there is the odd few) but generally, people dont use forums to prey on young children. id feel a lot better if my child used forums, that i could join and keep an eye on.

its impossible to watch everything tho, we dont have eyes on the back of our heads. from the age of 14 i went off meeting people from the internet. infact at 15 i went 200 miles north to a theme park and met up with a bunch of guys from a community i used to be in.

you probably think, young and naive, but i was more street wise then most people my age. tho yes i was in a dangerous position, the gys i met all 2 or 3 years older then me. 6 of them 1 of me. etc etc - but it was a time in my life i didnt care too much what happened to me either way.

good news is those guys were great, became great friends on, and 2 years after that i actually moved the 200 miles to live in the same city as them all.

6 years after that first meeting, we're all great friends still

ive traveled abroad too and met people. and even to this day i still travel everywhere meeting people from the internet.

I let my children use the computer in the living room and I watch them 100% of the time when they are on it. It is password protected with no real work around unless they know how to hack a password. They do not have MySpace and I set up their email and I have their passwords.

They do not go anywhere without me knowing first and they have check-in times. I am, and will remain, very vigilant with my children and I will always guide their actions. Call me what you will (over-protective?) but I take this all very seriously.

Well mine are 21 and 19. They have their own computers and do their own thing. I monitored as best as I could when they were younger but can't do a lot about it now.
