I thought this was interesting Luba, mainly to read that the converse is true fo teenage boys.

Second, it seems to be a direct result of social competition with other girls for these same boys. Perhaps we could eliminate bullying by changing our acceptance, or tolerance or even encouragement of teen socialization at younger ages?

Clearly it seems that girls that are as young as 10 are beginning to bully each other over boys: Why? Where are they getting the impression that this should even be remotely part of their worldly interests?

My response to this is: They MUST be made to be interested in something else. I think I will insist that my daughter play softball, join the 4-H club, be in the choir, etc., etc.

I agree with you, Scott, about finding other interests at a young age. To already count on the importance of boy/girl relationships at such a young age is ridiculous and will lead to all sorts of problems as they age. I firmly believe a child should be taught the importance of his/her strengths within and not relying on boy/girl friends. He/she should be validated, loved, cared for, and listened to, taught to be independent, and communicated with by the parents.

Another reason why I am not opposed to homeschooling and small private schools. Plus, I can freely comment on the idiocy of most of the curriculae.

Over here they had the brilliant idea to make factories out of schools. So instead of a school having 500-600 students, now they have 2000-3000 if not more students. The problem is of course that all kinds of protective measures (knowing everyone, teachers knowing what goes on, etc.) are done away with. And now we are all surprised if some abused child takes a knife to school.

this is one thing that hasn't changed in all generations. no matter what a parent tries to do to keep their kids busy, nature takes over and the interest in the oposite sex is always there.

I remember being as young as 9 or 10 when i started to notice the boys. it's natural.

bullying will always be there also, unfortunately. there will be kids that envy others for their looks or popularity, another thing that hasn't changed in generations.

what has changed however is the methods of bullying. weapons. that has to be the focus and a solution to this must be reached or it will only get worse. society has to ask themselves why are kids today using guns and knives. the mysterious question that nobody seems to have an answer to.

as for bullying, it is usually the good looking kids, the popular or the "bookworms". the root of bullying, IMHO is envy.

it is unfortunate but bullying, i don't think will ever go away. so what's the answer then?
